Me and My Cussing

So I was at a family reunion a few months ago in VA (not NC) and I'm talking to my father. I'd been drinking and just cursing a blue streak. My aunt heard and was pretty offended. My father thought it was pretty funny. Now I'm mid-life, both my grandparents are gone but it got me thinking about whether I should smarten up my language. I know legally it's a free speech thing but in the antiquated work environment, even in my industry, I run into issues where a casual f-bomb or c-word is kind of frowned up. So, there's no legal reason for me to change how I talk but I'm wonder if there's a moral basis for me to get rid of the profanity. Is anyone else bothered by excessive profanity?

This seems like as good of a place as any to discuss this. How do the other parents on here keep from using bad language around their kids during sporting events. I cant see a big play without starting a suck our dicks chant. I cant see a bad call without screaming out a bunch of fuck yous. My son is a year old so I know I'm all good now, but I'm on borrowed time here. I want to watch sports with him, how do I do it?

I used to care about that kind of thing until I started paying attention to song lyrics on the radio about meth and blow and three-ways. Terp fans aren't going to scar him any more than Ke$ha or Katy Perry.

Mini-me is almost 6 and has been exposed to vulgarity but any time he's started to say anything inappropriate he seems ok with the explanation that those kinds of words are only for grown-ups. I'm curious and afraid of when that will wear off too, but I figure there's no point in unrealistically trying to keep him on a bubble.

This. My kids have been exposed to it their whole lives. My MIL likes to tell the story of when my son was about 4 and he said "oh crap" about something and she told him he should say "fiddlesticks" or something equally dorky. His response was "well, it's better than shit or fuck." So at a very young age my kid even understood the hierarchy of curse words. You just need to make sure they understand what is not acceptable.

If you didn't cuss after hitting some of the golf shots I've seen you hit then I don't think you have a problem.
But to be serious just pick your spots and tone it down in mixed company. It's really not that hard: if your aunt found it offensive then it was offensive.
