Mad Men Season 5 Thread

I feel bad for the guys at that time. There only porn consisted of wallet pics and watching clothed women dance.

Yeah, all the no herp and no AIDS, and all those parties where you basically could bang secretaries at will. That era must have SUCKED.

  • every other storefront in times square for most of the 60's was a porn theater peep show or adult book store

    5th and lehigh

  • Not to mention the epic office Christmas parties. I wish I owned a flux capacitor just for those.

Unless you are in the lucky 10%, you aren't working in an office with hot secretaries. You are either working in a factory with no secretaries or you are a Harry who only bangs a mediocre secretary once in a blue moon and is relegated to banging the same fat wife for his whole life. Today's era of millions of sluts>>>>>>>>>60's era of a few sluts reserved for the top level guys (IE: Draper and Sterling).

alex mack is my wife. lay off.

Not anymore. It's time to dump her for a younger model. That's what Draper did to Betty and she wasn't halfway to being like Alex Mack.

I remember when all hell was breaking loose in Season 4, Harry had to say how he had to "fly out to the coast." He likes to bigtime people with his Hollywood connections, but he's a small player and everyone is noticing it now.

The writer who got laid off/fired last year also questioned his sexual orientation, so you have to wonder if all his comments about Megan and gays is just homophobic overcompensating.

I wonder if Don would ever go out to California. Harry screws up and Don needs to go out there to fix things up and decides he doesn't want to go back. He's always happy there and Megan seems like she would want to go to Hollywood and become a star.

This is my new go-to gif for when we get good recruiting news.

edit: WTF how do we get gifs to work?

    Double edit: there we go.

I definitely told myself that I needed that dance on a loop, for whenever I was in a bad mood.

As a partner,I assume Roger is expected to bring in enough revenue to justify his salary. Most people don't bat an eye about Don coming in late or sleeping in his office because he's the firm's heavy hitter and money maker. Roger used to be that guy on the accounts side, but he's slipped. If the firm has to keep pinching every penny, I could see Pete (and probably Lane and Don eventually) openly questioning whether Roger is pulling his weight any more.

Roger ponied up a lot of cash from the original sale to start the new partnership, didn't he?

Not to mention the epic office Christmas parties. I wish I owned a flux capacitor just for those.

Christmas parties were notorious for shagging the single secretarial pool members in the fifties and early sixties in many businesses. Probably remained so for ad agencies and big city offices much longer...

    tagterp

  • I remember Christmas parties from the late 70s, and 80s. A lot of booze, for sure.

  • I feel like Christmas parties ended up having such a reputation that everyone tries to tone it down now so as not to embarrass themselves. I find random company sponsored happy hours lead to more debauchary than the Christmas parties I've attended.
