MD Residents Face Huge Jump in Taxes

  • I dont give a crap about the flush tax doubling (no pun intended).

But the septic system restrictions have wide reaching effects on multi-family construction and go back to MOM taking unprecedented steps on personally determining development. Not only a job killer, but really, really big driver on supply/cost of homes.

$30 a year on the flush tax is just another death by many cuts that I have accustomed myself to, but the septic restrictions are absurd.

  • How can people defend this man? Honestly, how? Boggles my mind.

  • Ineptocracy

(in-ep-toc'-ra-cy) - a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.

Too many houses are built in this state as it is now.

An opinion many people in the construction business would disagree with. I am not in costruction, and still disagree with it also.

Even if you think the supply of existing homes in the entire state> demand, there are still areas (on the eastern shore, southern MD and others) where the need for new homes is evident. If MOM arbitrarily limits building with this absurd septic law, he also drives up the prices of the existing home inventory, as well as multifamily apartment rents. Like I said, this supposed law made for green purposes has vast effects.

  • you seriously don't believe that this is really a green law though do you? ...and you really can't believe that O'Malley believes that this will have an impact on residential construction, right? This was O'Malley dressing up a tax in floral paper, plain and simple (and it's really a pretty petty tax at that.)

    I agree.

Its a tax (pretty sizeable one too considering how fragile new construction is).

Can also dress it up on the National level as another green credential.

  • They are beyond worthless in Annapolis

Budget full of taxes should be passing house
    Flush Tax increase passes house
Income Tax increase passes house (edit to change since I see they already passed)
Maintenance of Effort passes house (state says they can overrule any county law/charter and increase property tax to fund education more)

and I wouldn't be surprised if the Wind Tax BS passes soon also

    What is a Wind Tax?

    What is a Wind Tax?

O'Malley wants to build wind turbines off OC in the Atlantic. Problem is wind is a horrible energy source (if you even dare to call it that) and the only way they can do it is off federal handouts and Marylands new taxes which would be $2 per month per ratepayer and a higher industrial tax on large users of energy. Not to forget certain %s of the energy sold have to be bought from renewable and they are allowed to charge even more to users for those as they cost a lot more

Last year wind failed to pass for a number of reasons including the company that was going to get it was run by O'Malleys former chief of staff. This time they got a lot of big labor and some religious people to help push their scam

What's wrong with wind energy? Not the ridiculous mom plan, but generally?

Down the road a ways may work well but right now it is very expensive. Then it is so unreliable in that too little wind or too much wind it shuts down. Then you have issues with baseload. Only reason it is around is feds, state, and local govts handing them so much cash and them charging higher rates. There are plenty of other issues raised with them....for some reason this plan is offshore only which I have no clue to why

There's a reason that fossil fuels replaced wind and hydro energy. There's nothing "wrong" with it, but it simply cannot sustain industrialized society.

    WTF

  • Wind energy is also highly reliant on expensive magnets that China owns the supply of.

    neal990

  • Wind energy is net negative at this point. It costs more to capture it than the energy it harnesses.

Eh, fair. I'm from MoCo, I've seen way too many housing developments that you can just tell are an awful idea as they're being built. Right now there's one going up on Bel Pre Road across the street from some projects and a retirement home. 500k houses with no yard space with the front door literally 20 feet from Bel Pre Road. Who's going to buy those houses? The schools in that area suck because of the projects there so you can't even argue that.
