My counterpoint (in addition to saying that I didn't think that was a fair accusation because there are plenty of examples of "good" dark-skinned characters and "bad" light-skinned ones) was that it wasn't racism, it was a product of the fact that it seems like most of the best black actors (at least that would be available to a show like the Wire) are first or second generation American, meaning that they tend to be darker skinned. Michael K. Williams' (Omar) parents were immigrants from the carribean, same with Jamie Hector (Marlow). Idris Elba's (Stringer) were African immigrants to England, and Gbenga Akinnagbe's (Chris Partlow) were immigrants to America. So really it seems like it could be a problem of the immigrants being able to afford to send their kids to performing arts schools or something rather than them being picked because they are darker skinned and scarier.
