  • I enjoyed it, but I'm near death. Upvoted.

  • This board has a lot of tendencies that discourage quality posting, such as bashing high-effort posts like this one, stalking/f***ing with people when they share stories from their personal lives like that hot TA thread and many others.

I got a really nice reaction for this story in a different medium (and of course with people that know me personally) and I am glad a handful of people here enjoyed it too.

I didn't write it for this audience but decided after the fact to share it here as well to add a little content to the suque. I would be curious to know how people would write it differently but I personally think the style I picked out of many available worked for this story. Why people would log-in just to post negative comments in a thread like this though is hard to figure out - don't get the point.

  • fuck I just wanted some light reading before bed, come to the suque hoping for a decent thread and find this monstrosity. tl/dr, will read in morning

  • WTF did I just read? Who talks/writes like that? The main character in the story sounds like a real winner.

I got the shotgun. You got the briefcase. It's all in the game though, right?

    Omar Little

  • WTF are people getting Hemingway out of this? He would have told the story in half the time it took Sniper Terp to tell it.

I think the problem was that most of us didn't know wtf we were reading: an actual experience of yours, a short story you wrote, something you copied from another board, a parody post, or something else. The writing style combined with the fact that I don't think anybody knew you were in Peru made us think, "ummm...what is this supposed to be?"

    Thanks for sharing, though.

I used to think the same thing until I realized one thing, I sucked. I can loan a mirror if you need one.

It was a boring story that took forever to go nowhere.

  • Decent story. Condensing or removing the accent nonsense could have made it much better.

    First day on the Suck?

I venture a guess that the "other medium" was talking. It's a good story. It's the telling that is hurting. If you are an aspiring writer take that as constructively as you can. If you aren't, stop trying to write like one, use your own voice.

  • It wasnt a bad story, but it kind of appeared out of nowhere and I don't think any of us know you well enough or have any clue why you were there in the first place. It all just seemed so completely random and devoid of context.

  • Yeah makes sense actually.

The other medium was facebook, which obviously is filled with all my personal friends who know I am in South America.

I guess I didn't feel like typing up a "Hey guys, I'm in Peru and this is what happened to me last night" type sentence.

If people are real writers I would love to hear some constructive criticism but I don't see myself as a writer even as a hobbyist and I wrote this between 4 and 5 am on a mix of alcohol and adrenaline. I liked adding some literary flourish to this because it's fun to play with the English language and I don't get a chance to do so regularly because if I said this stuff outloud I'd sound like a douche. That's why I wrote it instead. As for the people just typing that it sucks or whatever, OK... You can back up your authority to comment on my writing skills with some sort of credential and then give me specific advice, but most people commenting are just being dicks. I didn't post this for my benefit or ego, just to add some entertainment. (If it were for my ego, I'd talk about the nights I kiss beautiful girls instead of getting scammed by plain ones).

The suque needs to lose it's high school popular-table, online circle jerk culture a little bit, but oh well, everyone wants to be important somewhere and if for you that is an internet message board, I'm not hating.

Here on the Writers Guild website, we have us some excruciatingly high standards.

This is the suque. For your story to have been suitable suque board material, you needed to have banged both Peruvian chicks, at the same time of course, beat up their boyfriends, at the same time of course, cashed your $7500 weekly paycheck and threaten to have you father buy that bar. Read a tiffles or a 286 thread and then write your story again.

    Exactly.

But that´s my point. It´s fun to use colorful language instead of just plain speech, at least for me. That is part of the satisfaction in writing.

Unless you are Chuck Palahniuk or Jack Kerouac, your best writing is going to sound different than your speech.

What are you crying about? Your thread has a +15 rating. Thats the same as the Annette thread.

Edit to say the only one on the first two pages with a higher rating is Kate Upton doing the dougie. Do you really think this story belongs there?

  • Keep em coming cp, the suque needs more stories.

  • I am not complaining. I just am pointing out that bashing high effort posts disincentivizes people from adding quality content to the boards and laughing at all the professional writing critics that have shedded their disguises as mediocre internet posters to come out of the woodwork.

I would have a lot more stories from South America if I felt like semi publicly posting all the craziness I get into with girls here.

I stopped reading after this sentence. I don't want to read about you "turning the tables" on some Peruvian dude.

So, OP, did you have the balls to go back to the same place the next night and act like nothing happened?
