  • Anybody know of internships or entry level jobs at Chicago PR or advertising offices? My daughter's going for her Masters in those fields there, and her days are open with all night classes. She's smart as hell...

    • OK, help me out with this:

In about a week or so, I have a second interview. I can't get into what the job exactly is but the first interview was with the big boss. It was very short but he left it with a "well, you convinced me. I need you to meet with my team." So now I'm meeting with three guys whom, if I got the position, I'd be working with/for.

The thing is, there is not an actual position and the work I am proposing is something they've never done. So aside from meeting with 3 guys and convincing them that I'd be a good fit for their company, I have to convince them that there's value in what I'm offering.

I am working on a Power Point presentation with video and pictures, etc. I am trying to keep it relatively short (10-15 minutes.)

I am not sure I have a specific question, it is just a much more corporate setting than I am used to. Still, if I were to get the job, it would be a dream gig. Has anyone ever been in a situation where you are applying for a position that doesn't exist? Any tricks? Advice?

Side question: let's say things go great and they ask how much I am expecting. Since this is effectively a made up position and a concept that is relatively uncharted, I have no idea what to say. I know the strategy is not to be the first person to name a price, but if I have to, I am not sure how to come up with that figure.

classlessthug: I have too much on my plate to worry about the fact that my junk intimidates some needle D undergrad.

Listen, if you start bringing PowerPoint presentations to job interviews, you're raising the bar for the rest of us. Do you want every other job seeker on earth to hate your guts? Because that's the inevitable result.

Surely there is some comparable position. And if it's corporate they are going to have you somewhat pegged anyway, unless you are the absolute shiz. They should offer a number, you say you were thinking 20 percent more, and you settle for something in between. If your idea is so great that they wouldn't want their competitor to have you, then they will bite on the bigger number. Do you really have no idea?

I don't know of anyone else doing it, if that helps.

More request for information is more about the corporate world in general as my career path has avoided that realm for the most part. I know it's hard to be THAT generic but any insight helps.

i went through this once; in my case the company had many unanswered questions about virtually everything (they made a killing in a different industry and were expanding)

so my advice is to explain how it usually works (or should work if entirely new product or whatever) and gauge their comfort level with your direct and confident answers

i once went through 6 interviews to get a job....the 2nd one was with the big cheese who wanted me and the other 4 were with people trying to figure a way out of hiring me (and yes i replaced 4 of them within 6 months, including my midget psu excuse me ups boss)

good luck figuring out the political landscape etc

Looking for entry level position in a business related field, not too picky just want to get experience under the belt and begin working from the ground up.

May 2011 Maryland graduate with a BA in economics. Any leads or ideas of where/what to pursue or look would be very helpful. Worth a try..

My buddy graduated with an Econ degree awhile back. He ended up going to OCS at Quantico and becoming a Marine officer.

I work for an specialized IT contracting firm that has clients all around the DMV area. I was skeptical about doing contract work at first but the pay is great and I like the job I am in and will likely convert when my contract is up. I get sent a bunch of listings for openings each week, if anybody is interested, PM me and I'll forward the job openings to you.
