    Maryland would probably garner support of 70% of the VA population living South, East, and West of Richmond. Most of VA isn't a big fan of Nova.

    While you might have a point about most of VA not being a big fan of Northern VA, they certainly don't think more favorably of Maryland.

  • while the people in most of VA probably don't like northern VA, northern VA lines their tax coffers, so i doubt they would give it up easily.

    Northern Virginia= University of Texas, Oklahoma and Texas A&M
    The rest of Virginia= The rest of the Big 12.
    Maryland= Conference USA

    LOL and maybe the ACC can just annex Notre Dame.

    To make the metaphor more accurate, though, imagine that Notre Dame actually has to live next door to the Big East schools 24/7. None of this partial-year-resident stuff.

    Notre Dame stares past its backyard in-ground pool with the cross tiled across the bottom, beyond its Virgin Mary on the halfshell fountain draining into an overly large but generic koi pond, just beyond the landscaped Spiritual Reflection Garden and over that back fence featuring subtly grained sections resembling the Body of Christ. There, on a rising grade covered in scrub brush and large immobile rocks, impossible to ignore, lies WVU's overgrown property. The ever-present AMC Eagle up on cinder blocks, a random weather-worn couch mounted on roller skates for some reason, and a 14-foot diameter satellite dish dotted with shoes and discarded meth equipment.

    Suddenly, getting annexed by a bordering town with some minimal standards doesn't seem like such a bad idea. Even if some of the folks in that town dress in head-to-toe orange (equivalently: purple), drive the occasional camouflage car and sing songs about animals.

  • I grew up in Annapolis and have lived in Reston (2009-2010) and Arlington (2010-2011), and when it all comes down to it Maryland is better. Lower income tax was nice at first, but then moving to NoVa and getting hit with close to a $1000 in vehicle inspections/stickers/permits was extremely frustrating at 24 when you already have to pay an arm and a leg to live near anything relevant. Crabs are also better than....well what is Virginia known for? I mean they even put VA's NFL team in MD because it's better. I don't hate VA, I just know that I am from Maryland so I am better than you.

    My wife grew up in Montgomery County and moved to Reston two years ago. I asked her if she would ever want to move back to Maryland. She gave me a look like I'd just taken a dump on her chest.

    My little test to see how worldly a poster is comes from these threads. To me, anyone who sees a real tangible difference between the two areas obviously hasn't been out in the world much. To take a ride to Omaha, or Fargo or Guatemala and then come back and tell me there's a huge difference.

    I post this in every MD vs. VA thread, but...

    Potomac=Great Falls
    Bethesda=Arlington
    Gaithersburg=Reston
    Dundalk=Fredericksburg
    Car Tax=State taxes

    blah

    Damn...that's some perspective, but TBO I am not a fan of Mont. County at all. I think Arlington >>>> Bethesda and Reston >>>> Gaithersburg. I mean I have lived in Arlington/Reston, but would never consider living in Bethesda/Gaithersburg.

    My bias is in Anne Arundel County - yeah we might not have as much money across the board as MoCo, but we have Annapolis and that trumps any place in MoCo.
