How much money do you drop on table games at casinos?

  • On the ETGs, I saw people with $1,000 and $2,000 limits on the roulette wheel and craps. The guy that sat next to me, on Wednesday had a $10,000 limit playing bacarrat. Is this normal? Do this happen at actual table games?

    For me if I drop $100.00 on a game, I'm a high roller.

    But I'm the definition of a low roller. My goal is to sit at a blackjack table, bet the minimum every time, and suck down as many free drinks as possible.

    thats usually my ballpark too but there is a time factor. if i lose that 200 really quick ill pull out another 200.

  • Depends where I am. At these electronic games at Maryland Live I'm not putting much money in. Delaware Park/AC I'll do $300-400. Vegas $500+

  • It always amazes me when I see people who drop tons of money at various table games. Obviously this isn't more than a hunch/feeling, but to me, it's usually pretty obvious when people can actually afford it versus when they just dropped half of a paycheck in 30 minutes.

    Also, I'm not sure there's a more depressing sight than old people sitting for hours playing fairly high-limit slots with their oxygen tanks next to them.

  • I usually go to a casino about 3-5 trips a year. If it's a one night thing (Bethlehem when visiting my Grandma) I'll probably limit to $200. Trips to AC I usually budget $500-$1000 and usually play $10-$25 blackjack as well, and a small amount of craps. I've only been going to casinos 3 years (I'm 24) and I think I've probably just about broken even. Most I've ever lost was $1200 in Vegas the weekend of my 21st birthday and most I've ever one was $900 in AC one weekend last year.

    This unless I'm drunk. Then there is no limit to what I'll throw down.

    On a sidenote, everytime I win hand in blackjack I add $5 to my bet for the next hand. Once I lose I go back to the minimum. Does anyone else do this?

    Why would you do that, unless you believe in momentum/hot streaks/other such tripe?

    I don't do this every time, I do it on feel. Pressing your bets is necessary.

    Drunk in Vegas, went up $1000 late at night. I had two $500 chips, walked by the high roller's at Caesars, and felt the need to put a chip down. Lost.     It seems like this is almost anti-card counting. If you win a few hands, it's likely that the "good" cards have come out for you, and that there are fewer left. So, wouldn't you be raising your bet in a spot where card counters would likely be decreasing their bets?

    Probably not the best strategy, I've won a lot, and lost a lot off it. I'd rather go with my gut and feel good losing while flexing my bets off of feel, than any other strategy I've tried. In the end, as long as you don't lose more than you can afford to, it's all good!

  • I'll drop a few hundred here and there if I'm at the casino with friends for fun. When I'm there for work I try to stay away from the pit though unless I'm detilting at Pai Gow. One time I was playing that though and someone was betting between 2k and 10k a hand while I was betting $20. I felt like the ultimate noob.

  • The last time I was in AC I was playing craps at a half roped off table. About an hour later this guy shows up in a ripped white t-shirt and a hat with paint stains to take the reserved half of the table. He was playing 1k pass with max odds, among other random bets. I rolled 3,3,6,7 right after he got there. I lost him my entire year's salary in about 30 minutes and thought I was going to end up in an alley somewhere. The guy literally looked homeless. I really wanted to know what this guy did that could allow him to have 50-100K for a craps game and dress like a bum.

    Ill play minimum limits of everything and unless I run really badly I don't really hit the walk away point. If I feel uncomfortable ill just grind a 1/2 table for 3-4 hours instead.

    One could just as easily argue that when you're on a winning streak, the count is likely in your favor, and you should be increasing your bets.

    But in the end, who cares? Unless you're counting cards to the point that you're getting heat from the casinos, you're there trying to have fun. And betting bigger when you're winning is fun.

    I agree with your second paragraph. Obviously if your sole goal is to make money, you wouldn't be playing table games to begin with.

    I'm not as sure about your first paragraph though. Obviously I've put no thought into this, but it seems like you'd be using up the count being in your favor while you were getting on your streak to begin with, and then betting more after the count went out of favor. Seems to me that it would be better to bet a bit more after you've lost a few hands.

    I love pai gow so much. It's definitely my go-to game when I need a poker break.

    I don't really know why I like it so much. It's fairly social if you get the right table, but it's pretty much the ultimate mindless game. I think I like the fact that it's an easy way to get a couple of drinks in an hour and not burn through money too quickly.

  • I'm a low roller craps player. I've established $300 per trip. If I lose that much, it just isn't my trip and I shrug. But my strategy is conservative enough that it is rare that I drop three bills quickly.

    The reason you will see many high rollers (ones who want the comps and luxuries more than the thrill of gambling) playing PaiGow is because of the many pushes. These whales are required to bet a certain amount an hour, because of the large amount of pushes (both hands need to beat dealer to win, 1/1 push, lose both hands dealer wins), they can sit there for long periods and not have to fear losing much
