  • In the thick of the debate over President Barack Obama’s health care reform bill, administration officials ignored warnings that one of its most controversial provisions was financially unsustainable and could leave taxpayers on the hook for billions of dollars.

According to a report released Thursday by a working group of congressional investigators, officials inside the Department of Health and Human Services ignored numerous red flags about the Community Living Assistance Services and Supports program (CLASS) — and in some cases the officials went to work figuring out how to hide them.

The major problem with Solyndra is not all the ways that the government failed to prop up a company, or all the bad reasons why the Obama administration chose Solyndra to receive such an obscene amount of money. Pointing out that the Obama administration is inept and using Solyndra as an example is valid but it only focuses on a part of the bigger problem.

That bigger problem, of course, is that the government gave out half a billion dollars to a company employing 1100 people, and that this was considered a success (before it wasn't). That's around half a million dollars an employee.

We're at the point where giving away half a million dollars per employee is considered a good use of the tax dollars the government collects and now the government wants to collect even more.

Why not just give each potential employee $250k, which might actually stimulate the economy while saving a quarter of a billion dollars.

  • Way Past Watergate
    September 26, 2011, 12:24 pm

For those who don’t know, the Gunwalker scandal goes like this: For whatever reason, the ATF decided that it was a good idea to let guys that they knew were buying guns in mass quantities to give to the Cartels in Mexico… go ahead and do it. Those weapons were then used to murder at least a couple of hundred people, including American federal agents, like Border Guard Brian Terry. They were giving guns to guys that were, in the words of the ATF, “stone cold killers.”

The DoJ initially denied knowing anything about it. As the investigation has proceeded, not only did the DoJ know, but the FBI was probably involved in destroying evidence in the Terry case, and the connections go all the way to the White House.

Now, it turns out that the ATF didn’t just let them buy guns — they went ahead and bought a few of them directly and swept the paperwork under the carpet. This goes way past Watergate. This is like deciding to replace the “plumbers” with FBI agents, and they happened to kill a few security guards at the hotel on the way.

Watergate didn’t have a body count. Gunwalker has hundreds.

Anybody who does not think the Obama Administration is a corrupt as any other Administration needs a saliva test for intoxication. It is obvious they push government money to donors of influence. They attempted to seed the cartels with American guns whose purchase was facilitated by ATF types so that they could show American sources for guns in the hands of cartels. Why? Well in cooperation with the Washington Post they were setting the table for major federal legislation to stop legitimate gun sales and hoped to use these "discoveries" as proof of the need for action (you know the type that needs to be enacted tomorrow because the "bill has to be passed in order to know what is in it") .

I hope a court ordered special prosecutor is named and that investigation results in Holder's impeachment. DOJ violated the law for political purposes yet again!

    tagterp

  • Totally agree. Issa said he wants to hire a special prosecutor but he's holding off so that Congress can be more involved for now...or something like that, I can't recall exactly what he said.

And you're absolutely right, this was done to demonize legitimate gun sellers, but happily it's going to backfire on the administration in a big way. As a blogger I posted above said (paraphrasing), at least Watergate didn't leave any dead bodies behind.
