thank you, UMClassof90. how can you be a christian and not believe that Jesus appeared post-death?

wasnt Jesus resurrected? that does not equal ghost to me.

and when the OP asked if you believe in ghosts i think we are to assume hes talking about the typical ones we see on TV/movies.

  • You're being silly now vous. How do you explain photo evidence and sightings of saucer like craft from the late 1800's through the 1930's? I sure cant. Use your brain for once and go look up testimony from around that time and photos. Maybe you wont sound so stupid and ignorant on the topic

im certainly open to the possibility of a UFO visiting earth at some time in its history but what photo evidence are you talking about?

  • Ghosts are like post marriage beejays and God. I don't have concrete evidence they exist but I'm willing to be convinced otherwise.

There is a BOSS thread on the pit right now about this. The story in the first page will make your skin crawl. Straight up. http://www.ogboards.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4619

I am definitely in the "fuck Milt, he's being a douchebag" group with that story. If none of the Wake fans want to sack up, let the OP know that I'm in the general area (central NC) and will gladly roll over there for an evening and chat with Milt about what the hell he wants everyone to do.

    I love shit like that.

If you can't explain it, how do you come to the conclusion that these are visitors from outer space? This has a been a human fallacy since the beginning of humans. Things without ready explanations being assigned mystical, magical and supernatural explanations. Use you brain for once and see that there is a huge gap that you leap like Evel Knievel between "I sure can't (explain it)" and concluding that these are visitors from outer space.

In ancient Greece, people couldn't explain lightning. They concluded that an angry Zeus was throwing the bolts down from Mt. Olympus. We now now that this is just static electricity resulting from the friction of warm air rubbing against cold air.

Before the germ theory of disease people couldn't explain disease. So they concluded that evil spirits were the cause and illnesses were treated by shaman, witch doctors and the like. Now we now that bacteria and viruses are the cause.

The point is If you can't explain it, then it is unexplained. Period. History has shown that jumping to supernatural and fantastical explanations always, always turns out wrong without exception. You already admitted in the quote above that you can't explain it. An explanation requires evidence, corroboration, verification. And an extraordinary explanation such as these are visitors from Mars requires extraordinary evidence. Otherwise the world is a big magic show where we say, "I don't know how he sawed that woman in half, it must be magic."

Regarding photo evidence, any number of explanations are more likely and more plausible than these are aliens in flying saucers. The most likely is that the photos are staged/faked/doctored. But also there could be a defect in the film, something on the lens, a defect in the lens, an error in film processing, an optical illusion, an illusion of perspective and so on. If you are going to skip over these much more plausible explanations and jump to the little green men explanations, you need to produce some rock solid evidence, corroboration and verification.

Do you notice that everyone's photo of ufos are different. And that we don't see flying saucers as much any more but we see different kinds of ufos. What is the more plausible explanation for the variation. 1) Aliens have many makes and models of space craft like we have with autos. 2) We are being visited by aliens from many different star systems who use different vehicles? 3) Different people fake photos in different ways and as time goes on and our ideas of space vehicles becomes more sophisticated, people stop faking photos with saucers because it is so cliche? 3 is the most obvious answer. No one should except one or two in the absence of overwhelming and compelling evidence.

As far as testimony goes, this is not evidence. People testify to all kinds of outrageous things from sailors testifying to mermaid and sea monster sightings, to alien abductions, to ghosts, to bigfoot, to sea monsters in Scottish lakes. Silly people say silly things. Speaking of which, after that spiritual rapture, are we still on schedule for the end of the world next month?
