no one in philly eats fast food or drinks tons of soda

The above statement is one hundred percent preposterous bullshit.

Maybe you were making a joke at your city's expense...?

Interesting. Obesity is incredibly prevalent among the lower class and lower class whites for the most part don't live in NYC (or DC, for that matter).

    It all starts with edumacation.

a couple of those things, just the name was invented in philly. i'm sure philladelphians were the first people ever to put flavor to ice, or meat between bread...

also, you appear to be taking credit for the entirety of the contributions of the largely rural pennsylvania dutch people.

    what has gaithersburg invented?

So really it sounds like Philly is solely responsible for the obesity problem in America

I've held this stance for a while. The city is home to all the fatties, the suburbs are where it's at anyway.

Because in his mind, Philadelphia = Gaithersburg.

  • Do people really think fat people don't get free refills? Fat people and kids are the populations who hit the fountain the hardest. Those populations will continue to drink 40+ oz of soda with every visit.

Saying that Philadelphians don't eat fast food is kind of ridiculous. My office will go to one of three places for lunch; Reading Terminal Market, primos, or the roach coach. None of those places are providing food any less caloric than McD's. You are kidding yourself if you think the FF restaurants aren't packed all day though. Ill snap a picture of the line at Popeye's and McDonalds when I grab a spicy chicken from CFA at lunch today. The line at the Gallery@ME Popeye's looks like the NYSE after an earnings release.

It wont make you lose weight but you will be a complete moron for ordering a milkshake just to show the city whose boss.

just like the people who go to buffets and have stacks of food, but a diet coke?

Ever hear of a place called NIST?

I bet Gaithersburg's significant inventions per capita per year are higher than Philadelphia's by an order of magnitude, and quite possibly even higher than that. You could not possibly have picked a worse example, given that nobody on this board seems to be from Los Alamos NM.

(Awaiting the inevitable irony: "Butbut you can't count that because it's just some people inventing tons of stuff in Gaithersburg. So it's not really Gaithersburg.")

  • as a former fatty, i just want to say, I hate all fat people, most of them are completely useless and lazy, and in denial. My sister is obese, and I take every opportunity to ridicule her. If you allow yourself to become obese you deserve no mercy. I say this as someone who has been to the other side. There is no excuse to ever be more than 10-15 pounds overweight.

Actually this weekend we were at a cotillion and I asked my sister "how much do you weigh?" she responds "why?" I said you dont have to give me a number just say something like "less than your average rhino, or hippo but more than large wild boar."
