Somebody That I Used To Know lyrics
Now and then I think of when we were together
Like when you said you felt so happy you could die
Told myself that you were right for me
But felt so lonely in your company
But that was love and it's an ache I still remember
You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness
Like resignation to the end
Always the end
So when we found that we could not make sense
Well you said that we would still be friends
But I'll admit that I was glad that it was over
But you didn't have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened
And that we were nothing
And I don't even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger
And that feels so rough
You didn't have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records
And then change your number
I guess that I don't need that though
Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over
But had me believing it was always something that I'd done
And I don't wanna live that way
Reading into every word you say
You said that you could let it go
And I wouldn't catch you hung up on somebody that you used to know...
I used to know
That I used to know

Am I the only one who thought it was Katy Perry when they first saw the video?
BUT YOU DIDNT HAVE TO CUT ME OFF!!!
oh my god so that's gotye? that was the fucking worst. god young white people on the internet have the worst taste in music.
someone buy that guy a goddamn Germs record
I usually am not ashamed of my taste in dumb pop songs, but I really hate myself for how much I like "Drive by" by Train.
Somebody that I used to know is pretty great, except it bums me out.
go fuck yourself. that song is unquestionably awesome. youre not fun. eat some organic tofu pancakes dork.
You're the worst.
Hipsters like gotye, gotye song appears on glee, hipsters don't like gotye
wait, arent the people that eat organic tofu pancakes the people that love this shit? people that listen to tuneyards and wavves and lana del rey
Gotye is the worst. I don't think I can be associated with the call me mabye/sweet basement posters if I'm supposed to like that crap, too.
Its a really good song, but I have a feeling that in 15 years we'll look back and say "remember how everybody liked this song? That was weird." Kind of like Crash-Test Dummies but much much better.
Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm.
Every couple of weeks it will pop up on Lithium.

I'll never regret liking that song. Never.
Grah. I had never heard this song before but clicked on the link. Didn't really care for it the first time but now it's playing non-stop in my head and I can't stop whistling it.
Anyone have a best dance remix for it? I've pulled up a couple that had potential, but don't really do it justice.
too close by alex clare is good, its got that dubstep chorus beat
i'm not a fan of the song, but there is nothing worse than someone who criticizes one's taste in music.
im sorry i was confusing...your "Superbowl" was the Redskins losing since you know that the Ravens cant win it all.
keegs, ever heard of Boardroom Heroes?
I'm totally stealing this from another thread on this board:
I don't know what you mean, but it had the cadence of a joke.
agreed. terrible song. hated it from the first time i heard it on xm alt nation, and when it crossed over to top 40 stations i was bombarded with it even more.
Have you heard Tiesto's remix yet?
Brand new unreleased remix by Tiesto of Gotyes song 'Somebody That I Used to Know'!
I wouldn't go so far as to it terrible but it's a little too "rock and roll for girls" for my OWG tastes. It wouldn't cause me to change the channel.
Debating the merits of music is tough.....is there anything more subjective?
no, and i didnt mean to say that i disrespect anyone here's musical tastes... but i really dislike that song
I don't think the song is horrible - it's got a decent melody and chorus - but it's nothing special either. It was never really a hipster song - Sirius XMU is on pretty much constantly in my car and I've never heard it there once.
I always wonder why certain songs cross over and become huge while others that have all the same pop-friendly attributes stay as "indie hits". There's no rhyme or reason to it. This song and "Pumped Up Kicks" got huge. But then something like "It's Real" by Real Estate, which is just as poppy and much sunnier than the Gotye song, just got big in the indie world. Maybe it's just record company marketing - I don't know. Radio programmers are the laziest.
Nobody listens to Lana Del Ray, actually. I'm convinced of that.
