No kidding. Which is exactly why it's somewhat simplistic (and convenient...and wrong) to argue that the Constitution is about God-given, inalienable rights. There are countless things in there that are plainly rights and powers that derive from the government and some social compact/agreement, as opposed to things that derive from God.
This kinda reminds me of a lawyer joke a lawyer friend told me.
Q: Why does D.C. have all the lawyers and New Jersey have all the toxic waste dumps?
A: because Jersey got first pick.
The point is our founders never had this dilemma.
All The WTFs in the world will not change this. Your argument is nothing but a straw man.
For such a time as this.
In case you slept through the 60s MLK hammered the status quo with the constitution and the bible so that civil rights became the norm.
The founders never had a dilemma about entire races and an entire gender not having equal rights? You're right, but only because they considered it so obvious that those groups weren't equal that they wouldn't have considered that question to pose a dilemma.
But I thought our rights came from our creator and were inalienable and guaranteed by our founding fathers in a constitution that was derived from God? Why would you need governmental intervention in the 1960s?
check out trollfight.com. Somehow this thread let me to google search that term
I thought this was kind of a mind blower and figure if nothing else Kunal will read it. In today's NY Times.
The United States Constitution was once a model for charters around the world, but its influence is waning, according to a new study.
and what do you call 20,000 lawyers 20 feet under the Potomac?
A: An incredible start
President Obama and his West Wing aides ignored a subpoena of documents pertaining to the Solyndra loan guarantee even after congressional investigators met with White House officials to negotiate the scope of the subpoena, according to the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
"The White House's failure to comply with today's document deadline is a sad milestone on the path chosen by this administration to obstruct and delay our investigation rather than cooperate and help deliver answers for taxpayers," committee chairman Fred Upton, R-Mich., and Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee chairman Cliff Stearns R-Fla., said in a statement this evening.
What was the result of those negotiations? Did the House narrow the subpoena after the White House's objections? There was never any chance the White House was going to produce documents under the broad subpoena originally issued.
I feel so bad for all the taxpayers who just want some answers.
Look Darrell Issa, everyone's favorite legislator because he fights the fight for the people he represents, weighs in on Birth Control. Really!?!
Video description: Amy and Seth question the actions and decisions of lawmakers and the church about birth control.

Let's see, an individual suing a corporation, I wonder how the 9 wise judges will rule on this.
'No one is talking about that', but the Supreme Court is hearing the case?
Does not compute.
Now you know how the rest of us felt reading a bigturtle thread titled "Gee why is no one talking about this?" that began with, "Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), chairman of the House Oversight Committee, will hold the most high-profile hearing yet..."
wtf does this have to do with anything?
I'm pretty sure everyone on this board remembers paying 4 and a quarter for gas under George W Bush. IMPEACH OBAMA FOR GAS PRICES!!!
And yet when I posted 9months ago there was no talk on insideMdsports of this "high profile" hearing.
The press for the most part ignored this hearing, Yet just in this month two major news outlets ignored Holder's testimony. No T99 as usually you are dead wrong.
There's still no talk about the lawsuit against against Shell but you don't see me getting all butt sore about it, as usual the Corporate media covers things up. I try but the board seems to be full of corporate stooges and stoolies. I'm feeling your pain BigTurtle.
Quote: "Cebull acknowledged forwarding a racially charged email about President Barack Obama, saying he isn't a racist and apologizing while adding that he sent it "because it's anti-Obama."
So glad to read he is NOT a racist because I thought he might be otherwise. W. knew how to appoint some great judges, didn't he?
A federal judge in Montana who used official court email to circulate a racist joke about President Barack Obama has acknowledged the indiscretion and initiated a misconduct complaint against himself, court officials said on Thursday. The scandal prompted government ethics watch
I can't wait until Holder fires himself to show how honest he is.
Not following the logic, but I upvoted anyway.
