Even with normal people involved it's still a big PITA planning all that crap, and frankly way too expensive to even have a "normal traditional wedding"
It was a huge PITA and a huge expense, but it was one of the funnest nights of my life (the parts that I remembered anyway)
It's a matter of opinion. I completely understand the merits of what you did for your wedding. I'm saying, from my own experience, it wasn't a "big PITA", wasn't all that expensive (though many people go overboard) and turned out to be a fantastic party.
One big reason I'm glad I did what I did is that I have a great family and extended family that I was able to reunite. We're spread all over the country so we don't get together as much as we used to. Seems the only time anyone gets together is when an old relative passes. Getting everyone together for a wedding ceremony was an incredible pay off and a great memory. Made the cost even more worthwhile.

Im ready for aa 5th of vodica to end my feels.
I too felt this way until the actual day. It's an amazing time to have everyone you love surrounding you and happy. As you get older, you'll realize those moments are few. Weddings and funerals man. Sometimes it's the only time you really get reminded about what is important.
So for you younger guys who want to stack your wedding with your bros instead of your brothers, think twice. The internet makes it easier to stay in touch with your bros, but family is truly forever.
Not all families are built the same....if there was a dysfunctional group in my immediate family, I believe I'd have run to the Caribbean and been right with you in this argument. That wasn't the case.
Won't argue that, especially the funerals as some of my grandparents are really starting to get near the end.
I haven't seen my half sister in a few years. She's older (late 30s) so I really was unphased that her and my oldest nephew were coming from Michigan. Just found it their flight was cancelled (like most flights out of Chicago right now), so they are already in the car driving halfway across the country for my wedding. Flattered/amazed don't really star to describe it.
Boom that's perfect.
You should probably take your sister and nephew with you if you bail. She's out of Jdawg's age range so she should be safe and I'm sure they'd appreciate the BBQ after such a nice long drive.
The best wedding speech I can recall was based off of the Inches speech from Any Given Sunday. The guy replaced all the football references with "husband" "wife" "marriage" etc...it worked really well, and every guy in the reception went nuts for it.
...unfortunately every girl looked awkward/confused and said "well, the guys like it, so it must be something good"
Very true. The last two times I saw my aunt/uncle/cousins were my wedding in '09 and my uncles funeral in February.
She should have started a thread on here asking our permission to let her wed you.
"I like fixing broken things" - Kevin Plank
That sounds amazing.

Funny you should mention that...the start of the speech was "Good morning...Good morning".
Thinking back, that sounds like a tough one. The "Mankind -- that word should have new meaning for all of us today," would be the dead giveaway.
"Marriage - that word should have new meaning for all of us today"?
I was just saying...whatever the word choice there, I'd recognize and prepare for the standing O. The rest is tough. Tougher than Any Given Sunday, at least.
Ok it's go time. Love you all Suquers
Congrats and good luck.

OMG, THE WEDDING'S A DISASTER ALREADY!!!!!
I got married on a 95 degree in an un air-conditioned place on South Padre Island called chapel by the sea. Every picture of me has sweat pouring down my face :) We had a deep sea fishing trip where I puked up all sorts of tequilla and wanted to be air lifted to shore, but we caught a ton of red snapper and amberjack. and this one hit wonder played at my reception... 16 years ago next week
