This show had so much more potential with Whitfield. It's really such a shame, it was always going to be predominantly a blood/gore/sex man-show, but I felt like the overall acting was so much better in the first season with Whitfield, John Hannah, and Lucy Lawless. Liam McIntyre is basically a caricature as Spartacus and some of the side characters are just horrendously bad, either on their premise or the acting job itself (Naevia and Nasir come to mind).

Yeah, the first season (and the second, prequel season) were underrated because of all the tits and gore, but were pretty well written and a lot of fun. The last two have just been cartoons, but still a blast to watch.
For some reason the only ones that I'm hoping to see live are Gannicus and his hot German. They know how to party.
Not a jack ass. I am a 4 star poster on RCMB - spartanfan48413
Paul is right that it went from good show (hey it also has lots of tits and great fighting!), to now just a caricature. I still quite like it though.
*Fuck the new Naevia character though.
So there is not a new one this week (3/29), but next week is either a 2 hour finale, or 2 one hour back-to-back episodes for the finale.
Spartacus and his army are finally trapped, surrounded and then defeated in a final battle. All the prisoners (Spartacus disappeared from the last battle) are crucified all along the Appian Way.

I'm thinking Crassus sends Crixus' head to Spartacus who then decides to make final stand versus fleeing to the alps. Then it pretty much goes as you described. Hopefully Tiberius dies at least.
Naevia's character is the worst. I just can't buy her being a legit ass fighter.

Bumping this thread for the finale tonight. Anyone know if its longer than an hour?
We know from last yr's season finale that there will be fireworks, and you have to figure since this is the SERIES finale they will really go out with a bang.
I think it's an hour followed by the new Da Vinci show....but not 100% sure.
Have them both set on the DVR. I remember reading something last year that the Spartacus writers had enough material to make two more seasons, but rather than having it drag they just took the best stuff and made one epic final season. They've done good work.
Losing the original Spartacus actor, Andy Whitfield may have factored into this. As a number of us remarked, the replacement actor, Liam McIntyre, just seemed to fall abit short in the role.
just watched the series finale. yeah i cried like a bitch. i love the show and what spartacus stood for even though liam sucked. rip andy whitfield.
I thought NuSpartacus grew in the role. Really enjoyed it, and wouldn't mind partying with Gattacus in the afterlife.
Could they have not found someone who at least looked like a badass to replace Whitfield?
This. Didn't like him at first but he ended up being pretty good. Not as good as Andy Whitfield, but good, I thought.
Sad as it may be, I have a small void in my life with this show done.
Yes, yes she is.
Me and my wife end up talking about how much we hate her every week.
The original was a looker...
*Andy Whitfield isn't the only “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” star to be replaced for the second season. Lesley-Ann Brandt, who plays the slave Naevia, has
They did a great job with the last episode. I couldn't believe Crassus crucified the chick. Better ending than the movie, IMHO.
I wonder how Da Vinci's Demons and Black Sails will turn out.
I saw DVD, I thought was good. Da Vinci is a very interesting person....all I thought of was a painter but I read his wiki page and it's pretty impressive.
Finally saw this. It was really well done. Probably the best TV since Season 2. Was wondering how they could still make it feel like a "victory," and they did it very well. Bravo. I'll miss the show.
