Playing devils advocate a little bit since I do legitimately like creamier soups better. I know its not just broth there are variations with sugar, msg, rat poop, childrens tears ect.
Also associate it with DC since for the immediate area its the most cultured and so you'd more likely find it there. Also DC has hipsters who tout the stuff as godsend. It's good, but to me it's no different than wonton soup with a fancy name/buzz.
I don't know what you mean, but it had the cadence of a joke.
I really like Pho Thom which is across the street from CVS, though I personally think their entrees are better than their pho, not that their pho is bad, their entrees are just insane good.
There's a new Pho place next to CP Liquor but I haven't been there.

cool thanks, I would love to find good non-pho Vietnamese somewhere.
Is there any banh mi in CP yet?
ok now that's just silly. it's waaaaay different than wonton.
ehh, depth of flavor in pho broth is much greater than any wonton I have ever had.
Pho should have been broken down into specific types.
From a culinary standpoint, osyter stew dominates the test of time.
OH SHIT! WHAT NOW RAISE! YOU FUCKED UP!
Not that I know of.
*** pho ***
oysters should be eaten raw anyway ...
I would agree in 95% of the cases.
But how many times have you had dumpling & broth(wonton) soup NOT at some place that throws it with general tso's for 6.99?
Getting a pork dumpling soup at a dim sum would be more fair to compare to the standard pho place. In that particular case I love dumplings over loose noodles and meat. [since both actually put effort into the broth, not a box]
If chicken & dumplings is left off this I'll feel awful for forgetting to name it. Staple comfort food.

Comparisons to wonton are just dumb.
Im ready for aa 5th of vodica to end my feels.
agreed, actually the pics of wonton make we want to seek out good wonton.
Chicken and dumplings is not on the list, although matzo balls are dumplings.
***pho*** is overrated, but still wins this easily
yeah its basically like saying pork fried rice is quintessential DC
oysters are completely wasted in a soup...really they should never be eaten any way other than raw....if they are really good ones and the cook knows what hes doing they are passable fried
because of this i gotta go with **pho**...even tho its currently in a trendy massively overrated period of existence

It has been in that period for like 10 years. Bourdain's fault partly.
Not all oysters were meant to be raw.
***pho*** dominates though
Ever been to Ping Pong dim sum in DC? Quality wonton there. They were dead when I went in, and I asked for one dumpling of each meat in my soup. They obliged. I thought it was awesome.
Nope, thanks for the tip
I'm getting some pho for lunch today. Looking forward to it.
My vietnamese girlfriend makes the best pho I've ever eaten. All of the college park places are good though, I would give the new one next to CP Liquors a slight edge of PhoThom.
yea. ramen is the new hip soup people like to douche up.
so true. But also so, so good
Landslide, cmon people.
My grandfather makes it every year for Christmas and it is, without a doubt, my favorite soup in the world.
