beginning June 30, 2013 you won't be able to smoke on campus. WTF is this nanny BS? Lighting up a cigarette while laying on the mall has absolutely no health impact on anyone else.
The days of students taking smoke breaks on the steps of McKeldin Library will soon be over after the Board of Regents approved a policy last month banning smoking on the campus.
smoke free tailgates hahahahaha.
I hate smoking plenty but this is way too far. lol @ "limited area" and enforcement too.
when i'm out on the golf course are they going to come fine me for lighting up a cigar?
Most high schools have had rules like this forever. It shouldn't impact the coming generations much.. the ones who insist on smoking will still do it. They're used to it.
I thought only old people, rednecks, and thugs smoked ciggarettes anymore, anyway?
Good luck with that.
High schools and college campuses are very different beasts. It's the right thing to do at a high school and completely wrong at a college.
pretty sure the tailgating enforcement will be nonexistent.
i would venture at least a third of my friends/acquaintances smoke, and i'm none of those things
officer tau is already polishing his womping stick. If you thought he was overzealous when it came to people casually drinking, wait until you see him now
Randy Edsall is infinitely worse for my health than secondhand smoke, and yet he roams the campus unimpeded by law or justice.
"And I try to har-mo-nize with songs the lonesome sparrow sings...
There are no kings inside the Gates of Eden."
he forgot filthy hipster
I'd just love to see a big donor get cited by Tau or some other donk for lighting up a cigar during a football tailgate.
still none of those things!
Well, I misspoke above. That will never happen. Him writing up students though? Probably.
Pot is still allowed though, right? /me10yearsago
College is the time for reckless experimentation. Cigarettes, booze, JAPs, dp dough. I feel sorry for kids that are having that experience taken away.
Hereforth known as the Stoglin rule
that is absolutely absurd
im sorry i was confusing...your "Superbowl" was the Redskins losing since you know that the Ravens cant win it all.
It was a USM decision, not a UMD decision, so smoking is banned on every public university campus in the state.
Also, most young people don't smoke nowadays, so it's a bigger deal for the older people that work on campus IMO, the facilities workers might riot.
I personally don't have a problem with it, I think it's unnecessary but it doesn't affect me so I don't really care.

God, we are such a liberal campus.
"It's just so hard," Greivis said. "It's my heart, my love. Maryland made me who I am."
oh i didnt even think of that. LOL at telling a dishwasher or maintenance man he can't smoke a cigarette on his break.
Just because younger kids aren't apt to smoke as much anymore does not make it any less of a problem.
What will the Asians outside of McKeldin do now????
I don't really think it's a problem, it's an overly aggressive policy decision, but not a problem.
