Things like this always remind me to be grateful of my secular (if imperfect) society.
I'm with whoever said leave these guys to their own devices. If they, as a society, are willing to accept this, and they, as a society, have implemented this type of rule over the years, then they deserve whatever punishment they get. I support the verdict insomuch as he deserves it under their law. He knew the stakes. He chose to live in an islamic kingdom, to be a muslim, to adhere to these standards set forth by their great work of fiction, the Qu'ran.
I think this lifestyle is savage, primitive, and disgusting, but hey, if it doesn't affect me, or my fellow countrymen, or innocent people, go for it.
The dude was 14 years old at the time of the crime. He didn't choose to live in Saudi Arabia anymore than eighth-grade me chose to live in the US.
I missed that detail. My mistake. I'm wrong then that he, individually, chose to live there. He did, however, choose to commit the crime. I've never paralyzed anyone in a fight, nor been in that many to begin with.
Nonetheless, I think the meta point applies. This society has opted in to this lifestyle, its people have chosen to live this way over centuries and centuries. That's what they wanna do? Let em at it.

They'd probably stone both. But with men there is a maximize size you are allowed to use and you must stand at least a certain distance away from which you throw the stone. For women there is a minimum size you must use and you can't but further than a certain distance. One has a decent shot of getting out and one is certain to die.
Really effed up.
