Yeah I'm there year round, and live right down the road from the golf course. I'll give an update when it's worth coming up to ski.
I just got back from Breckenridge this weekend. Had some free passes for this weekend only, hence why I went so early in the season.
Had about 15 trails open, got about 2-3 inches each day I was there. Had fun.
Want to go back later in the season. Fun town though.
It's snowing out my window right now, which is very rare. Blizzard warning up in the cascades, and of course this is the year I went without a season pass...
I like Breck a lot. Solid mountain and good apres ski scene. Plus, Keystone is right there as well if you want a change.
In addition to Craigslist, does anyone have any recommendations for picking up a cheap, used snowboard/boots/bindings? Nothing fancy, just don't want to pay for rentals. And I think Play It Again isn't going to have nearly the deals that Craigslist would. (Also not totally sure how to figure out my boot size.)

Baltimore Ski Warehouse near BWI Airport. My girlfriend and I both got used skis and bindings for under $150 per person. Obviously not top of the line stuff, but they are modern parabolic skis with cosmetic wear.
Edit to add: They do a custom fitting, sharpen and wax them, and will sharpen and wax them any time if you can produce your receipt.

Go to the clearance pages on all the major sites and just look for last seasons equipment that they've got massively discounted.
I think I am about to pull the trigger on a new pair of Moments...semi-new US based company with decent reviews. anyone else know much about them; just trying to get some more opinions before buying
I have no idea how to put this....a great piece of writing about an avalanche in Washington that was set off by a group of 16 highly skilled skiers on a backcountry trail full of powder
by New York Times reporter John Branch, tells the harrowing story of skiers caught in an avalanche.
"Maryland football: Where everybody gets hurt and the starting left tackle has an existential crisis."
When the hell does Whitetail open? It's almost January. This seems ridiculous for a winter resort*
*I'm not a Ski person... I just like snow and tubing.
They would open up I'm sure if they could, the weather has been unusually warm and most places are probably having a hard time making snow.
I hate this board.
This is your tubing hill as of this morning.
man, you are missing some AMAZING snow. I was at Meadows the last two days, and i hope you can get up there soon (like, this weekend). Christmas eve was just about perfect on the groomers- there was a little powder on top that was just perfect for carving. I heard from friends that Heather Canyon was excellent, and I can only imagine the powder on Christmas day made that better. Christmas day? Sweet mother of pearl. So much powder. In the middle of the groomers, there was a foot of powder, easy. If you went off the trail just a little bit, waist deep powder. I'm finally good enough to where this was really fun; this time last year I would have been miserable.
Christmas eve we took a couple new turns just to explore and I inadvertently found myself at the top of some black diamonds... I not only managed to stay on my feet, but I didn't just heel-slip the whole way down. That said, anyone who saw me from the lift probably said "Ohhh... she doesn't want to be there."
Wisp has enough snow right now that it's worth coming up for some skiing.
So here's the deal. 7 of us planning a trip. I want to head to whiteface at lake placid. The others want to head to wisp
How's the skiing in the mid Atlantic. I've been to seven springs and thought it sucked. Then again I'm comparing to VT skiing
So a couple questions
How do I convince the group to travel 2x as far to get to lake placid
If that doesn't work, what's the best mid Atlantic skiing?
And also give me a resort with decent restaurants and bars
Consider Holiday Valley in Ellicotville, NY. Good skiing with constant lake effect snow and some really fun bars in town....lots of Canadians though. Probably a 5 / 5.5 hour drive.
Im ready for aa 5th of vodica to end my feels.
any reports on local skiing?
wisp had two slopes open as of a couple of weeks ago.
7springs is pretty much the best place within that distance from DC. Snowshoe in WV is a little further and similar, some say better. Wisp is a piece of shit compared to 7springs, so if you hated it in 7springs, you will loathe wisp.
Seven Springs has a great mobile app. Pops up the weather for the next few days, snow report for the day, what slopes are open, and has a few webcams to check out also.
this winter sucks....heading to colorado on Thursday, and of course only a 24" base. I NEED SNOW.
going to Utah first week of March, so I have hope there.
there's some crazy inversion weather thing going on at hood right now; it was 30 degrees in the valley today, and 55* on the mountain. snowboarding in a t-shirt in january, getting sunburned... i'll take it.
Went to Snowshoe a couple weeks ago. Nice and cold on Day 1 w/ no wind. Good coverage on open slopes and plenty of natural snow on the ground. It got warmer the next couple of days but things held up pretty well. I was just happy that they finally opened Shays on my last day there. They had a pretty good thaw after I left but things seem to be getting back to normal.
My 20 tr old daughter who has skied only several times in her life has just signed on to go to Jackson Hole over springbreak good idea/vbad idea?
Anyone have any thoughts on Brycr Resort or Massanutten Resort? I haven't seen those two listed in the thread but are reporting trails open.
