So I'm pretty sure I ruptured my eardrum today. I am in a SCUBA class and during a snorkeling exercise I dove to the deep end of the pool and didn't equalize. I felt pressure, then a extremely sharp pain in my right ear and a sound like all the air leaving a balloon. It is now extremely painful and is under lots of pressure. The whole right side of my face is in pain and I can't sleep and was wondering if any of you guys have ruptured yours and how long did it take to heal/when were you able to sleep again?
im hearing pg plaza is the spot!
ouch dude. Hope you feel better. That sounds awful.
thanks colfax. appreciate it.
This is not going to help you, but on an empathy level I deal w/ TMJ pretty regularly and on bad jaw popping days it's not uncommon to feel a tremendous amount of pressure in my ears. Usually the right side but sometimes both. Sometimes it feels like water is stuck in my ear. Sometimes it temporarily distorts hearing. Hopefully whatever your official diagnosis is will pass soon.
This sounds like a job for...
I have no knowledge on ruptured eardrums, but shouldn't you go to the doctor?
Go away, KA!
I hear it can be a real pain.
It's cool you're getting SCUBA certified. One of the best hobbies out there. I've been diving for 6 or 7 yrs now but I haven't done any damage to my ears.
You should go to the doctor for sure. I'm sure he'll tell you to stop the SCUBA class and not go in the water for a considerable length of time.
The worst pain I've ever felt was a blister on my eardrum. I was literally in and out of consciousness for several days due to the pain.
How does one develop a blister on one's eardrum?
Digging too deep?
Either fluid from the eustachian tube rubbing up against it, or a bacterial infection.
Danny, get it taken care of. Ask your mom (for everyone else, she's a nurse)
yeah i really hope its not that bad. If i can't do the class anymore that would suck.
terp 81- I talked to her and got a doctors appointment
Ruptured mine a couple of years ago, sorry to hear about your ear, it definitely hurts like a bastard. If you're not going to an ENT and the GP says it's ruptured I'd make an appointment with an ENT even if the GP says it should heal on its own. I was told by two GP's that mine would heal on its own and it never did (the pain/ringing goes away but the hole remains), now I'm going in for surgery to repair the eardrum in two weeks.
I ruptured mine in college. Its your tympanic membrane. Im not sure if they ever "heal" on their own if it is truly ruptured.......just that its small enough to leave it alone. If it is severe enough...they do surgery. (I had surgery.)
Its outpatient...and you are in and out in a few hours. I was sick as a dog for a day or two. (Working on your inner ear will make you dizzy/nausea like you wouldnt believe)
Go see an ENT. You dont want to mess around with something like that.
I'm no doctor but it sounds to me like you might have AIDS
No. This is jtp's doing. He's kept me around for his bizarre HOF resume.
Don't be ridiculous. This is the Suck Board.
I have had ruptured both of mine on separate occasion in the past and the pain is completely unbearable. My left ear was a pin hole from flying with a ear ache, and the right ear was a completely rupture. Mine both completely healed on their own. I didn't have hearing in my right ear for 3 months, and that is a very weird experience. The pain of both made my ACL tear feel like nothing in comparison. I hope yours is not bad.
i haven't slept yet since i had it happen. hopefully the doctor tomorrow can help me out
Listening to an awful girlfriend bitch at you for seventeen straight months.
Caught a really bad head cold out in San Francisco, on the plane home to DC my ears were so blocked they wouldn't pop, so my eardrum did. To this day I can inhale a bit through my ear, I can hear it whistle. I imagine I could blow smoke out my ear if I still smoked.
it is ruptured and i cannot go in the water for 6 weeks. my hearing should return in full after 2 weeks or so
Good luck on your recovery, that sounds painful as hell.
sounds like u got lucky. don't rush it and take your time healing.
That sucks man. I hope it heals up well and all is good.
