A true Washington institution. A lot of the people in the family that has owned it since the 70s were Terps.
The only store I can remember was in Gaithersburg, right near where Germantown began, along Clopper Road (Rt. 117).
That place seemed dead then, about 15-20 years ago.
Never been to one, I thought this thread was about the high school.
I remember going to the store in Bowie as a youth, that store had to of closed 10 plus years ago now
the beer drinking thread is way ahead of you. Chevy Chase location staying up for beer/wine/liqour, I believe.
Thank you baby Jesus.......that's my go to spot when I can't get out to Corridor Liquor in east bumblefuck Laurel.
The store that spawned a thousand meat-cutting jokes.
I will pour out a little beer for this location. Was one of my go to spots for reasonably priced beer in the area. Otherwise I thought they were lacking in the grocery dept but I will miss the alcohol section.
I've gone there every week the past 5 years asking if "Keeger" was there.
I'm guessing at least 15. When I was a young parent living in Bowie, I'd shop there for the daily specials. Every Tuesday, a gallon of milk was $1.99. Good times.
Call me a relic, call me what you will,
Say I'm old-fashioned, say I'm over the hill....
haha, that is what I called the store
The one in Vienna is only patronized by old people, and the parking lot is a dangerous place because of it. The store itself was very old and in need of update. The produce always looked awesome. Since we have a Giant, Whole Foods, and Fresh Market already, can't see another grocer going in there.
Need to redevelop that center with mixed use and underground parking.
There's a four store parking garage coming across the street from Bazin's.
My folks used to frequent the one at Congressional Plaza back in the day. The dude in produce always weirded me out with his cataracts stacking the vegetables.
Who' next, Rodmans?
Going the way of
Bell & Co

You can beat our prices, but you can't . . . . . . . . . .
Probably haven't been in a Magruder's a half dozen times in my life, but, being an owg, sorry to see the old places go.
Way back in the day, the place for produce on Rockville Pike was a sort of semi-open-air place called (don't know the spelling so I'm doing it phonetically; not even sure there was a sign) Serio's.
Went to the Gaithersburg store every once in awhile as they had very good sale prices on wine.
I don't think I ever bought anything else there. The store was always a little dirty/dingy, and the produce/meat/fish never looked fresh to me.
Sad they are going out of business though. Law of the jungle.
Is the one on Veirs Mill still around? That was my go-to beer place for a while. Haven't been over there in forever.
yeah, Vienna is getting better. Church Street will be cool and the Wolftrap hotel (I think, or maybe the other one on the other side of town) is being redeveloped. but I wish some of these strip malls on Maple could be redeveloped as mixed use. 3-4 stories, underground parking, mix of retail and residential and maybe medical office.
Yes, but unless you are MS-13 I wouldn't go near it.
