Obama never knew how to fight. I will take old brawlers over in shape younger guy. Hell Reagan could probably kick Obama's ass if both are in their present day condition.
Yeah it is condition when in office. Even still, old Andrew Jackson is better than most. The age thing hurts more modern presidents. Eisenhower or HW Bush when they were young? Absolute contenders. But at their presidential ages? No way
40) Ronald Reagan looks like he would know a thing or two about brawling, and he spent a lot of his prime in either the military or playing a cowboy. I expect he’d go far, but not far enough. Twenty years after the battle people will rewrite the fight to make him a lion among bobcats, but that’s mostly driven by nostalgia.
Detroit Hustles Harder
Teddy Roosevelt was a mushroom cloud laying motherfucker, motherfucker.
As soon as the fight starts I just picture Washington stabbing his knife downward into John Adams' skull with such force that it splits apart like a cantaloupe
Do you think if they battle this out in front of a crowd vs. no crowd that makes a difference? These are politicians after all.
If we're going by their condition while in office, GWB is probably the fittest president we've ever had. If he could survive the early stages, he could outlast everyone.
Good question. But in the end I think it is just an all out full-on survivalist mode thing.
There may be some showmanship on say "finishing moves", but generally I think its just a "stay alive" type deal.
I'm not sure Reagan's steadfast defense of Burbank, CA studio lots suggests he'd be good in a fight.
I thought for a time about Ford, probably the most athletically accomplished of our presidents, but I can't shake the image of Chevy Chase falling down stairs.
I liked the recommendation some of the commenters had about the same scenario, but making it a Hunger Games-style contest instead of straight-up Gladiator.
THAT would be interesting, and I think you could easily have a different top 3 than Jackson/TR/Lincoln.
Nixon could probably sneak into the top-5 with a scenario that allowed him to use his brutal cunning and manipulation.
"And I try to har-mo-nize with songs the lonesome sparrow sings...
There are no kings inside the Gates of Eden."
I misread, I thought it was physical peak, not just during presidency. Still like GHWB to make a strong showing, but maybe not quite as strong as I was suspecting. Only improves my opinion of Grant though, who was 46 when he was elected.
Teddy would elect to throw away the knife and instead use his Nobel peace prize
George Washington is really the only answer here.
Another factor is how they would group up. Almost any of the guys totally left to his own devices would be vulnerable. Do all the contemporaries form alliances since they know each other? Or does familiarity breed contempt??
lol, can't fight
I think the families are obvious alliances, and presidents who had VPs who became president are possibilities, though I'm sure many of them really hated each other and their alliances would ultimately backfire.
I'm glad someone mentioned him...he was a big guy and legit fought in wars. Jackson and TR to round up the top 3.
If you can dodge a shoe you can dodge a knife
Seeing that it's a battle royale and not a tournament, I'm not so sure the obvious 2-3 would win it. They'd be targeted early and often by groups of lesser presidents.
Washington would totally rally a bunch of lesser dudes together to take out Jackson and Teddy.
Nixon might try to gut Taft early and quietly, and then hide within his large, blubbery center like Luke Skywalker with the Tauntaun.
Oooh, interesting possiblity. Could Andrew Jackson kill a lesser president and then carve out a femur bone or similarly-sized bone to use as a blunt instrument with more range than a combat knife?
Could add another dimension to his arsenal.
I think it is important to qualify the military experience. Guys like Teddy, Jackson, Grant that saw some real shit in hand to hand combat- their experience matters.
Guys like Carter in the Navy (lol), Or W guarding a cactus in the national guard- that shit is not relevant at all here.
Recall the opening scene of The Dark Knight. I can picture Nixon as the Joker-esque ringleader of a marauding band, each of which kills the next per Dick's orders. He could even wear a Nixon mask!
