I shared this in the mafia dead chat last week and a couple of the guys got a kick out of it, so figured I'd post for general consumption. It was kind of related to my tutoring thread, because even though I'm decently comfortable financially and want the best for my kid, I'm really really cheap about stuff. Like so cheap that I am legitimately planning on pushing my spawn into professions that don't require a college education or where he can get one for free, like in prison.
So anyway, growing up one of the sons of my father's boss was around my age (about 8 at the time, he was probably 10-11). We had their family over for dinner and the kid just always had his thumb in his mouth so my sister was all "wtf is it with you and the thumb." It turns out that his father (a full colonel in the army) was too cheap to buy the kid braces so decided that instead of braces he would pay the kid something like a quarter a day to use his thumb to push on his front/buck teeth. Later on after we asked him about it, sho nuff his father started nagging him about needing to push on his teeth. So basically instead of shelling out some money for braces the colonel decided that it would be a better idea to implement this combination of bribery/psychological torture on the kid. I'm sure it was funnier when I was telling i in chat, but it's about the most ridiculous thing ever.
Since we were army, one of us moved away not too long afterward and I never kept in touch with the kid, but I'm pretty much dying to know whether he ended up with straight teeth. I think I remember their last name and I'm going to email my dad to see, but it's kind of a shot in the dark and my dad will probably think I'm insane for even remembering it.
I figured I'd share and others could also share any stories of ridiculous parenting tactics they might have come across.
Off to a roaring start.
No. This is jtp's doing. He's kept me around for his bizarre HOF resume.
Yeah, good thing I posted it. Thanks everyone for sharing, too.
Some stories just aren't as well told in paragraph form.
I'm sure time of day is a factor too. This place usually dies between 4 and 5.
If I was told I could choose between knowing the truth about Who killed Kennedy? OR What happened to this kid's teeth? its the teeth by a landslide.
In Dead Chat yesterday, Smiley also told us he was thinking about sending his child to prison so he could get a free College Education.
"It's just so hard," Greivis said. "It's my heart, my love. Maryland made me who I am."
Well, I didn't necessarily say that I would send him there for college, just that It might be part of the plan. I mean, I'm not going to personally snitch on him or anything probably.
