Christie in NJ signed bill today banning anyone under 17 from going to a tanning salon (even with parents can't do it), and 14 for spray tans.
Jersey Shore making a difference!
Bloomberg nanny-itis is catching , I see.
So now we have an independent mayor and a GOP governor babysitting their respective constituents. How the worm turns.
Honestly, Christie only did this because he would lack a certain credibility on dietary issues.
I know this is going to turn into a political wasteland of a thread, but this is something that should catch on everywhere. Tanning is on the same plane as smoking for health risks.
"The drummer for Maryland's pep band just freaked out: 'They're trying to slow the game down,' he screamed. 'Get up on them, get up on them.
Heck, tanning might just be worse. You are quite literally trying to burn your skin to try and look darker. Think about that for a second.
I love the delightful shade of pink the good Lord gave me. I don't need any of your olive-skinned beauty, you Mediterranean bastards!
"And I try to har-mo-nize with songs the lonesome sparrow sings...
There are no kings inside the Gates of Eden."
I've always been attracted to fair skin women. Tan girls become leathery women. I'm getting to the age where girls my age who worshipped the sun start aging rapidly.
classlessthug: I have too much on my plate to worry about the fact that my junk intimidates some needle D undergrad.
Except tanning has zero effect on those around you.
Until they are mandated to subsidize your healthcare at the federal level.
Be honest, you got to that age a while ago.
I've got no problem with this substantively, but isn't he alienating a group of people he'll be hoping to attract when he runs for president (as he obviously intends to do at some point)? I don't get the strategic advantage to this and, let's be honest, nothing of this sort is done by a guy like him without some political calculation.
i honestly don't know, is it worse for you to get a fake tan or tan from sun? Both must be awful. These kids obviously NEED to tan so aren't they just going to bake themselves in sun?
Does Christie realize how many kids are going to want him to come at them bro?
I can't vouch for this link, but plenty of stuff like this floating around...
Although the medical association of tanning and skin cancer is well known, a significant percentage of people continue to expose themselves to tanning beds in order to get that golden brown they desire. And while the risks are now so well known, this has yet to stop people from flocking to the nearest tanning salon.According to recent
Well, by "fake tan" I would assume that he meant spray tan not a tanning bed (which is a real tan). I guess they want to ban spray tans for U-14 just to discourage the "tanning culture"?
My wife and I play a game where I guess the ages of her Cougar friends. I've guessed as much as 15 years older in some cases. One of her friends I swore was 55 years old.
I don't think they are really inherently different, but one of them at least generally includes sunscreen.
In north NJ at least, the number of people who use tanning beds is incredible. A former NJ step-niece of mine used to go tanning 3 times per week. She had the skin tone and texture of a Hot Sam's pretzel. She was 18. That was a few years ago... don't want to know what she'll end up looking like.
Does she have the sort of voice that reflects decades of three-pack-a-day smoking?
