Interpret the question however you want.
DC is more important. its the capital of the most powerful nation in the world. decisions made there have a far greater affect on the world than anywhere else.
of course NYC is the better city.
DC. It's the capital of the world's super power. NYC is one of a handful of very large cities that are centers for finance, fashion, media along with London, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai and a few others. There's only one capital of one super power.
Both are in America. Both are as important as it gets. But NYC is the financial hub.
It would be possible to build the same infrastructure necessary to run the federal government in another location (albeit extremely expensive).

I am by no means an expert but the smell test tells me it would be easier to make Des Moines the financial hub than it would be to make it the new location for an entire Federal government.
classlessthug: I have too much on my plate to worry about the fact that my junk intimidates some needle D undergrad.
Whichever one of the two I'm living in.
Yeah but you can't get a decent bagel in Des Moines.
NYC in an absolute landslide.
I got the shotgun. You got the briefcase. It's all in the game though, right?
This will contend for douchiest thread on the suque.
I can see the federal government moving to somewhere in Kansas so that its extremely protected from any attack from the Atlantic before NYC loses the title of financial capital over some dumb town in Iowa.
even the biggest NYC fans know DC is more important.
since this is over maybe we should do NYC vs. London.
and then that new capital city would be the most important city in the world
more important city: springfield, illinois or chicago?
Phatboy if you had any balls I'd meet you at the AFA Boxing gym and have Coach Weichers put some gloves on us.
The best way to think about this is which would cripple the nation more if the city and everything in it (people, buildings, information) were completely blown up/destroyed/leveled. If Bin Laden were still alive which would he rather wipe out if he could only do one?
I honestly don't know the answer to that. The death toll and monetary loss would be far greater in the case of NYC, but the loss of information, decision makers, and overall infrastructure of the nation would be far greater in the case of DC.
It's a really interesting if not morbid question to ponder.
if springfields decisions affected every other state in the USA it would be more important.
ok, so springfield is only more important than chicago to illinois?
my point is when you have a city, DC, whose decisions affect every country on the planet it is the most important city.
like the scenario above. if DC was nuked and we lost every single one of our leaders that seems like it would be much harder to recover from than having NYC nuked. who knows what the DC scenario could lead to. maybe another civil war like some posters on here theorize about. :D
so that's a yes, then? i mean, decisions in springfield affect all of illinois, right? so it's definitely more important to the state than chicago. i'm sure no decisions are made in chicago that affect the rest of the state anyway.
the issue in the case of a state capital, is that the legislative and executive powers of most state governments are relatively minor compared to that of the federal government.
If anyone every said Albany is more important to NY than NYC they would be committed to Creedmore.
lol if u think so. my guess is chicago has some impact just like NYC does.
what does NYC do that is so unique/important? just like goterps says you can find financial centers in other cities but you cant find another capital to the most powerful nation in the world.
This is like arguing which bears are better.
Small pet ones, duh.
New York is the financial capital of the world, so yeah New York

"Maryland football: Where everybody gets hurt and the starting left tackle has an existential crisis."
It has a unique amount of mullah which makes it important.
