If this is the thread for idiotic things said about what happened today, I just saw something that wins.
"I suggest home school yeah it means less interaction with kids but it's a lot safer."
bob, I think that is a reasonable position to take. But the fact of the matter is that legislating this away is messy. The picture below is a rifle of the same caliber that is also semi-automatic and is a very popular hunting and target shooting rifle, and unfortunately would have been just as capable of murdering children as the one you posted. Should they both be banned? Some people might say yes emphatically, I just want to point out that things aren't so simple as saying "ban scary looking rifles!"
"Semi-automatic rifle known as an AR-15 chambered in .223"
A .223 rifle has been called by gun experts “the best home-defense weapon” and “a rifleman’s most valuable tool.” Guns Magazine wrote that the .223 “shoots far, fast and flat” and has a “relatively moderate cost.”
Yeah, that looks really badass. I don't even know what it is, but I'm sure it functions the same as a hunting rifle. But good work on the scare campaign.
My money's on your take here.
I don't think that rifle is semi-automatic. You would see an action mechanism.
Go back to my post about kids taking rifles to school for rifle team.
fair point, Neal. honestly, I feel like its one of these things where you either ban all automatic, semi-automatic ones, or ban none of them........can't start picking and choosing.....
if banning all of them pisses off the hunters of the world, then sorry, they will have to use something else....
So the Eloi* here think that they can tell the Morlocks to behave themselves, huh? And that'll take care of the problem. Good luck with that POV, but don't try to impress it on me.
*people saying, 'guns are bad, so take them away ONLY from the people who use them for good.'
"Two guns were initially reported to have been found on the scene, but some outlets now report four. Reports reference a semi-automatic Glock and Sig Sauer 9 mm being recovered, as well as a .223 caliber rifle."
does that help you smart guy?
LOL. It was designed to wound, not kill, so as to take 3 men off the battlefield instead of just one. The average hunting rifle is far more lethal, but it sure looks bland with old fashoin wood hardware and such.
I know an AR15, I own one. I've never seen an AR15 without a shoulder stock is all, dumbfuck.
Tell that to the families of the people killed by the DC snipers.
I just googled Ruger semi-automatic rifle. There are plenty of non-intimidating looking semi-automatic rifles that are used by hunters and recreational shooters lawfully, which is my point. Lots of people are tweeting out a picture similar to the one bob did and saying "GUN CONTROL!" But if you're going to legislate away the rifle this shooter reportedly used, you're going to legislate away hunting rifles and target shooting rifles. He also reportedly had a Glock 9 mm, which I'd imagine is one of the most popular handguns in America. Should we legislate that away as well? I think there are many people who would argue that we should. But again I think some people think it's possible to pass a law that says "stop scary people from getting scary looking guns" and all of this will go away, but it isn't that simple.
I am sure one of those is really necessary for you to get through life with right? you would probably die if you couldn't own one of those any longer I assume?
I don't know the answer. I own several guns, including a Glock 9 MM. I'm just not sure what this kid's mom needs a long range semi-auto rifle. Same for hunters. If you need a semi-auto, you're probably a crappy shot. I think most of the people own these things because they can-that's it.
you are always the voice of reason Neal. that is why you are the best.
But, I want you to tell me YOUR thoughts on what should be done (or not done) about this issue. I honestly want to know.
Yep. I don't need freedom of speech or a 300 HP car, but I have those too. At least for the time being.
What are you going to do get rid of all the existing weapons? come to peoples homes and take them? I am for stricter buying guidelines but you can't stop a bat shit crazy Mfer like this kid from doing what he was going to do if it wasn't a legal gun, it would be an illegal one or a bomb or a sword.
Pic Sigs are for losers.
you didnt dissapoint me. I knew that you would go right there....and you did! well done.
When you go there, I go there. Don't be pissed because you get beat at the game of strawman.

Mark my words, gun control will come through ammo restrictions.

I just thought we were smarter here than to cling to an archaic amendment that has zippy use in modern times. I think there are perfectly valid reasons for people to want to own guns, but writing it off as some bullshit about "rights" that were created to prevent foreign and domestic threats from taking over our homes is just pure intellectual dishonesty. Just say you own a gun because you like them and you can, not because you're asserting your 2nd amendment right to protect yourself from redcoats.
