Hello after huge tree caused tons of damage to my home, and the living room and kitchen gutted out to sub floor, new walls, hardwood floors, etc I want new tv for living room.
I need to get the tv in next week.
I am looking at Samsung 55 inch Smart TV, 7100 series, 7500 series and 8000 series, Samsung model # UN55ES7100
The main isssue is I want best bang for dollar in picture, the 8000 series has this clap feature I do not need. I think 8000 is overpriced,
I think all 3 are LED , 240 MHZ, but is picture quality that different?
prices are $2200., 2,000.00 and $1500.00.
Also, where do I buy?
Do I get extened warranty?
Is Samsung the best value?
I mainly watch sports, Terps, Skins, Ravens, Orioles and Nationals, track, etc
Check out hh Gregg in Rockville. I hear they have helpful sales people.
Isn't plasma better for sports? Someone more knowledgable please chime in
I think plasmas are better for sports. Refresh rates or something. But I also think is best in a darker room. I'm currently shopping and I'm down to the two. Both highly rated in Consumer Rpts and elsewhere and reasonably priced in comparison to others.
PANASONIC VIERA 55
Isn't this where NOD is supposed to come in and say all of those are bad and that if you really cared you would turn your biggest wall in your house into an IMAX screen
And the 2nd tv

And b/c you don't need the link to the Samsung TV three times.

We get the point!
What I get for pressing send just as I go underground on the metro.
I have 2 Panasonic Vieras and I love them.
I'm pretty sure the 7100 is the one we bought a few months ago. Really like it. We had a little trouble getting the settings right at first to make the picture the best it could be but Mr. Julester found a site where somebody laid out all the settings and now it looks awesome. The sound is much better than our older Samsung.
Hard to beat a Panasonic plasma in terms of black levels, clarity and excellent picture from all angles, something LED's have yet to accomplish. I have a 55" VT30 from a few years ago, and it's rare that I find anything that surpasses its picture quality. The ST50 is a great buy.
I have no insight on the TV, but I'm glad to see you're out of the moldy apartment where the landlord was stealing from you and your house is in good enough shape to put a 55" tv in.
Holy crap, I forgot all about that.
How you doing these days, JLK??
Thanks for replys, I am doing ok these days, just healing from torn tricep and just have wrist issue, both my wrists were fractured and I did not know it. I an dealing with stomach issues from stress and I am sure pain meds, but overall much better, and my sleepycle is way off. In July when I was injured was horrible, but there were people much worse than me, just fought thru, Constrcution of home going well, my friend is the Contractor and does the job right, very pleased, home will be great when done, ,whole new living room and kitchen downstairs below kitchen I am making storage unit for my sports gear. I had over 600 items stolen from apartment with mold, I kept discovering missing items. I am in process of settling with insurance. I can not file any claims until work on house is completed, but at minimum will go to Maryland Insurance Commission, the main issues is gainst a Public Adjuster who is regulated under MD Insurance Commission.
Regarding the TV, I know many prefer Plasma, and some swear by them, but if I get LCD / LED, I think the Samsung 7100 is best bang for buck,
As Julester said the 7100 needs picture to be tweaked, I have a 32 inch LG LCD for kitchen I git years back and it is great, only 120MHZ, but 240 not needed fro that small.
I will now consider Panasonic Viera Plasma , but TV going in Living where there is daylight, but can be dimmed way down, most of my TV viewing is at night.
Does Plasma have 3D?
I went to HH GRegg and Best Buy in Rockville on Pike and the prices are good, I can buy from another site, for $150.00 less but I will buy from HH GrEgg or Best Buy,
In summary I am down to Samsung 7100 and Panasonic Plasma, will check Samsung Plasma.
I am curious see price of Plasmas.
Sorry, I was wrong. We got the 60 inch version of this one. We got it from Crutchfield and love them.
Samsungre designed to a higher level, both inside and out. From
Samsung, and all LED TVs for that matter, have had big issues with uniformity with black levels and overall picture quality problems. Plasma is still king across the spectrum unless you are talking the Sharp Elite LED (starts at about 5K and only makes 60" and 70" models).
If you want the best picture in a 55", you go Panasonic ST or VT. No LED will come close to the PQ...specifically the black levels. The price is way lower as well. LED's will be brighter, but they still haven't conquered the uniformity issues. Samsung's F series (out this spring/summer) promises to address these issues, but the proof is in the pudding.
get a vizio at costco for half of these prices and never notice the difference.
I would second this, especially considering the crazy shit you're going through. Might be a good idea to add to your emergency savings.
We are looking for a 42 inch set for the beach place and are looking at a Vizio. Some reviews mention a sound issue where it randomly gets louder or softer. You've never had this issue, I take it? If anyone has any input, good or bad on this one, I'd appreciate it.

Never had that issue. One issue is compact fluorescent bulbs on the same circuit causes a buzz but I'm not sure that's specific to vizio
The Panasonic VIERA TC-P55VT50 was cnets top rated tv for 2012.
Amazon is currently selling it for $1,757.94 and Best Buy will price match it. I just bought one for my family room, its an amazing picture.
It has 3D.

Bought a 55" full led 240hz vizio from costco in December 2010 and it's awesome. $1500 at the time and i think the picture is just as good as any name brand
Vizio is entry level...little in the bells and whistles dept and electronics are not that of it's competitors. They do a great job for what they cost, but there is certainly better PQ available with other brands.
3D programming is still developing. Most TVs are going to have varying degrees of crosstalk. All the 3D TVs I've tested have been awful. I don't care about 3D, so that helps.
I'm only shopping for an LED because I have a 33" x 50" recessed niche and can just fit a 55" LED due to their super thin bezels, but I am not sold on ANYTHING yet. I'll likely hold out for the Samsung F series in hopes they fix their black level performance.
