Obviously, nobody's got a crystal ball, so there's no telling when (or even if) the United States as we know it will cease to exist. But assuming that at some point in the future, it does cease to exist as we know it (representative democracy with our existing Constitution at least being paid lip service, more or less covering the land mass it currently covers, with a federal structure where states have SOME authority), why will it have ended and when?
Will a war or other event cause mass anarchy where no governing body effectively exists?
Will the federal government abolish state governments somehow and declare complete sovereignty?
Will there be mass cessations where several to many (more than just one or a small handful) states declare themselves completely sovereign?
Will there be mass cessations where all states declare themselves completely sovereign, or the federal government just calls it quits?
Will the country split into several countries?
Will there be a coup, military or other, where some other entity discards the US Constitution and declares itself sovereign over the existing lands of the ?US?
Will the Constitution be replaced via a Constitutional Convention, with an orderly transition into some other governmental structure (or even the same one but with major differences)?
Will a global governing body be granted (or take) sovereignty over our nation?
Will another single country take us over via military invasion?
Will the US absorb some other territory large enough where the fundamental makeup of the country will be very different?
Insert Big Ten joke here.
How long until this occurs?
I'm predicting that maybe 75 years from now, we start seeing states leave based on incompatible philosophies of redistribution of wealth. I don't think they'll merge and form another country because the goal is more local government and less ceding authority to a centralized government.
95 years from now we go broke.
With a lazy twist that it can be killed by water
We'll probably break up into different countries eventually.
Basically impossible for the US to be invaded.
Yeah, I don't know. Your question used too many HS Social Studies-type words and not enough references to Skynet or the Zombie Apocalypse.
If Risk can be believed there is going to be a really weird split no one saw coming
Yeah, the correct answer is the drones take over within the next decade max.

"And I try to har-mo-nize with songs the lonesome sparrow sings...
There are no kings inside the Gates of Eden."
I like to imagine Twitter will be involved
Today's the day! Free Chipotle burritos to first 400 million people to stand under the giant laser on the national mall!
whatever happens, we're safe in the Big 10. We'll be with the money.
It's either Skynet or Zombies. I'm hoping Skynet. I honestly can't WAIT for the war against machines. I'm going to be on the front lines, with my face covered in printer ink and me holding the cord of my old computer up as a rallying cry before entering into battle.
If you're so smart, why aren't you rich?
Dude. We've been through this. Skynet does exist they're just called "Google"
The Iron Sheik breaks USA's back, makes it humble.
Actually Skynet exists and it's called Skynet.
A powerful new telecommunications satellite for the UK military is launched on an Ariane rocket from the Kourou base in French Guiana.
What if Skynet unleashes zombies to destroy the human uprising?
sad thing is there's a bunch of cheap bastards that would do that.
I was thinking about this last night as I read "A Short Account of the Destruction of the Indies."
Spain, and lol Portugal, were dominant world powers 400 years ago. Imagine that. No nation is bulletproof.
Hell, even if I knew it was a trap I'd probably still show up and try to grab one
or you're a sucker just like the alex chick from saved by the bell college years in Independence Day.
To be fair she was a stripper so she had it coming
I'm happy with that map, how can we make this a thing?
Some dickbag is gonna be experimenting and accidentally create a biological or nano-agent that will murk us all. Or he'll do it on purpose. The point is, fuck that guy.
