Apparently I've wandered into a random insane asylum or kindergarten.
I'll just exit *now*.
I'm pretty sure I have the ability to affect the results of Maryland sports more than the results of the Presidential election. And that's certainly true if I get all my friends and family out to try and influence the result.
My "Barack Out With Your Cock Out" election night party wont be very fun if Romney wins, but that's pretty much the only way it really effects my life.
I'd take the twins and a terps title, but I would take the election over a pro-sports win.
Exactly. But most people know who they're voting for. It's just that both guys still inspire a "really, these are my choices?" sentiment.
Nothing to be proud of Russ...
I have no idea which candidate winning would ultimately affect my life more positively. Financially, I'm sure the policies either one would implement would probably be worth 5+ figures to me in one direction or the other, but I don't know which one that is. I'll vote for who I think is best, but I don't really care who wins - I'd take a free pizza or something over "my guy" winning the election.

Sorry, I thought it was obvious that implying it will have some drastic effect in your life as you did was the crazy part.
I got the shotgun. You got the briefcase. It's all in the game though, right?
If you live in the following states, you don't really affect or influence the outcome either (unless you can literally influence tens or hundreds of thousands of voters):
After a quick glance down this thread, it unsurprisingly looks like at least 75% of people here are on the right side of this.

Quote of the year on this election...
Not when your choices are a crap-tasting versus a shit-tasting donut.
How many would take the Twins if it meant 4 years of Palin as POTUS?
I would take the CEO of Archer Daniels Midland as president for 4 years if it meant we get the Twins

I'm 29 and have never voted. I'd take a Spring Training victory over choosing the next President.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised by these results since this is primarily a sports board. In regular life though, do you guys find that you are in the small minority in thinking this way like I do?
I just asked my wife, and she went with president. But she was a government and politics major, and beyond going to Nats and Maryland football games with me, and maybe occasionally watching a game on TV in a group setting, she's not that into sports.
The better question is: would you rather something really awesome happen related to your favorite hobby/passtime, or be able to pick the president.
I was a government and politics major too and its not even close. sports are waaaaaaay more important to my everyday life. majoring in gov probably only made me more cynical and disenfranchised from politics
If you promised me a basketball natty within the decade, I'd sign wherever I need to forfeiting my voting rights for the rest of my life

lol. Of course a rich guy like you would pine for the days of a guy who gave you a massive tax break. That's not much of a choice for you.
Good call... I changed the question to "would you rather win an all-expenses paid trip to the Tomorrowland music festival, or have your choice for president win?" and her answer was immediately the former.
Considering "my guy" isn't going to be Obama or Romney, I think I would be foolhardy to pass up a 3rd party presidency for a sports title. But yeah, I'd rather stand in a parade for the Nats than a parade for Obama or Romney.
I would give Viper an ironclad 4 year contract as President Obama's 2nd term press secretary if it meant we got the Twins.
"And I try to har-mo-nize with songs the lonesome sparrow sings...
There are no kings inside the Gates of Eden."
Are you kidding? I'd pay money to make that happen; I wouldn't need anything in return. I might actually pay attention to press briefings if the press secretary regularly belittled Helen Thomas about her height and promised to supply Brianna Keilar with his 80 gallons.
For most people everywhere.
If the current president gets another term, this country won't last another 4 years. If you think it's bad now, it will only get worse when he won't have to worry about getting re-elected. Therefore, yes, I am a little more concerned about who is elected president than sports. And I would almost give anything for the Orioles/Terps to win big
