What? Seems almost silly not to go, man.
I got the shotgun. You got the briefcase. It's all in the game though, right?
uhhh wtf, why would you not do this?
Was looking into this too. Have a friend who wants to go, I want to follow US but he wants to stay in one city. If I'm following the US I'd like to do it for around 4k if possible. Wondering if it would still be fun to go stay in one city and only see one US game.
You havent partied until you have partied in Rio. Hands down the best night of my life. I cupped so many vags that night. My hand still smells like puta.
This is what I have been thinking about but I think it might almost be more fun. Not that it wouldn't happen anyway, but being able to experience fans and interact with them from all over the world could be pretty fucking cool. Plus who knows...you could end up seeing Messi or Ronaldo or Spain or something.
LOL, fair enough.
That would be my thoughts as well. To be honest, I would find it a little lame (not too lame, its the worldcup) to be surrounded by Americans the whole time.
Multiple reasons. One of which is the uncertainty of how this conversation would go down:
Me: Hey, you know that wedding thing?
Me: How would you feel about canceling it so I can go watch some soccer games in Brazil for six months without you?
If you can make it to Argentina that would also be cool. If you guys go and you plan on hooking up with chicks (professional or amateur) you can't let her walk into the hotel with you or they will assume she is a prostitute. You have to tell her to meet you at your room and walk in seperately....Had to learn the hard way.
You'd have to be the lamest person on Earth to manage to avoid other foreigners on a trip like this. Without even actively trying my friend and I ended up in conversations with people from all over the planet. Sadly we failed on our mission to find an actual North Korean.
i don't know your future wife...but it would definitely be worth it.
Will staying in hostels be a fun wild adventure or a sure way to lose an organ?
Researched and found this site today. Seems like a good way to find clean/safe/affordable lodging.
Discover amazing, unique accommodations in 192 countries. With more than 10 million nights booked worldwide, Airbnb is the world leader in travel rentals.
I've been to three world cups (France '98, Germany '06, SA '10) and two Euros (Portugal '04, Poland/Ukraine '12). Yes, there are many americans and trying to get a taste of local culture is extremely difficult, HOWEVER, they are some of the best trips I've been a part of. Germany in '06 was the best month I've had traveling, ever. I'll be in Rio next Summer with or without tickets.
Airbnb is always good, especially in big cities.
I have a small group going, unfortunately we did not have the foresight to sign up for the AO package a year ago and as much as I would love to get in on that package, I don't see 500 people dropping out.
You can book the flight starting in July and do it early. I am thinking $1,200 round trip.
After that, you can either follow a team around or stay in one city.
I am going to be following the USA during the group stage and I have found several travel sites which claim to take care of domestic flights, hotels, transportation to/from the game and between the hotels/airport. Additionally most include tours, breakfast, some sort of party, and Category 1 game tickets? I am not quite sure how they can guarantee the tickets unless they have booked them through fifa's hospitality program. Anywho, game tickets for the USA should not be difficult to get unless we get matched up with Brazil. there is the fifa ticket lottery which should be accepting applications in july/august, ussc, or just scalping them.
Most packages I have seen are for 8 nights, 10 nights, or 2 weeks ranging anywhere between $4,700 (8 nights)-$9,200 (2 weeks)

I booked a silly 2BR condo in Natal (One of safest cities in Brazil) for a month for $1000 on AirBNB. For the knockout round, heading to Fortaleeza for a week, then down to Rio for the finals.
Natal is on the North East coast between Recife and Fortaleeza (2 other WC cities) within driveable distance. Also it will be Winter in Brazil and the further North you are, the weather will be much, much better.
Sao Paulo and Porto Allegre will be borderline chilly at night.
I highly recommend joing AO and USSoccer for priority ticket access to USA games. In South Africa, we had lower midfield for every 1st round game, and front row lower EZ for the knockout match.
Staying in Natal allows us to catch up to 9 1st round matches (including 1 Brazil) plus 1 round of 16 and 1 quarterfinal - we'll fly to the US games as necessary.
For the guys going on the AO trip - you'll have a fucking blast. I just got back from the Jamaica trip and it was amazing. Great group of guys (and a few chicks) who drink like there's no tomorrow.
Im probably going with AO to Costa Rica or Panama if we still need points to qualify.

I want to be friends with HungryHerman.
Not like another grand or two would stop me, but was hoping to do this for under $4k. Sounds like i may be dreaming, or is it possible? Figure like 10-14 days with 3 other friends going.
1) Leave the fucking vuvuzela at home. Nobody outside of Tampa Bay Rays' games uses them anymore.
2) Avoid every Brazilian city that is not Rio. The rest of the country is modern-post-modern precast concrete; and full of douchebags, crime, and sad.
3) Try not to speak Portuguese like someone from Portugal. That dialect will bite you in the ass there. Just stick to English if you can't talk like the natives.
4) Repeat after me: spectacles, testicles, wallet, watch.
5) condoms condoms condoms.
It all depends if you want to follow the USA or not. The teams arent focused in one general area like in the past. The US could be playing in Porto Allegre / Natal / Manuas for example (2500 miles between 1 game and 2800 miles to the next, and then your stuck in the middle of the Amazon)
Check out my plan above to maximize matches and minmize costs.
We've got 1 Brazil match guaranteed and a 25% chance of getting at least 1 USA match nearby
$500 max room (10 days x $50) I paid less than $1000 total for the month for 2 people
$500 food and drink (10 days x $50) obviously this could fluctuate hugely depending on your eating/drinking habits
$500 4 mediocre matches at $125 each max
$500 1 Brazil Match
$250 1 decent match USA/ENG/GER/ARG etc
$1000 local travel / sightseeing / hookers etc
You can get a condo way cheaper than I quoted, especially with 4 guys. Food and drink vary wildly. If you do breakfast/lunch at the condo and street/local food for dinner its not bad - high end places in Brazil do ass-rape you on prices
Great idea if you want to pay absolutely top dollar for everything and see very few matches, plus there's a ton of crime in Rio as well.
If you just want to do RIO, wait til Carnival
jdawg is going? Shit, there goes our chances of winning this thing.
