I'm guessing that "when it all goes to shit" a shotgun or rifle isn't doing anything other than maybe buying a few more minutes or hours.
Being a ninja means never running out of ammo.
When the shit hits the fan, trying to obtain a gun will be too late.
I have a S&W .40 for criminals, a Remington .30-06 for deer, a Marlin .22 for fun/squirrels, a Stoeger over/under 12g for ducks and doves, and a Remington 12g pump for turkeys. Next addition maybe an AR-15 for coyotes and criminals post apocalypse.
Looking into getting a sig p250 9mm sub compact to carry. I cant find it for the price i want though.

No. This is jtp's doing. He's kept me around for his bizarre HOF resume.
I'm kinda screwed in the concealed carry department. Anything remotely compact or subcompact, and I have my pinky and ring finger below the grip. So if you meet me to buy something of mine from a craigslist ad, the Big bump under my shirt is the S&W .40.
9 qualifies I think
Have you looked at Sig Sauer 938? It's pretty compact (sliiiiightly larger than their 238) and you can get an extended mag so your fingers aren't hanging off. It carries IWB really well. My bf's had both the 238 and 938, we both really prefer the 938 (him for size, me for ability to shoot- the 238 kicked too much).
to the OP, i'd really suggest you look at this for you/your wife, too. Having shot a LOT of handguns, this has been my favorite so far. I'd give 2nd place to a Glock 26 (for my lady hands).
ETA: no, my favorite handgun i've shot is the Kimber ProCarry II, but for CC weapons the 938 and Glock 26.

Look at the Springfield XD40c it has an extended 16 round mag that gives it a really nice grip.
I'm looking for a few to pick up sometime soon...well I need to wait till work slows some and I have the time but tossed up on a few different ones. On the ammo front I used sportsmanguide.com before. Just make sure you join when they run some promo and only buy during the sales. I think when I joined I paid the $30 and got the 2 $10 off coupons plus a $15 gift card and on 1st order was able to use one $10 off plus the $15 gift card and ordered when it was free shipping and some discounts on the ammo I wanted. They run a ton of sales all the time so just only order in them and the prices aren't bad.
I've got ammo few other times and now might be using a family member who buys for a bunch of stores
Only own 5, so half a nut I guess. Looking at the Beretta PX4 sub-compact .40 ( I already own the full-size) and a .30-06 or .308 rifle to add to a long rifle. Glock is a consideration for the subcompact, but I like the feel of the Beretta better in my hand, and can break it down in like 5 seconds.
I have a Springfield 1911 and love the thing.
WRT ammo, the cheapest .45 ACP I've found, either online or in a store, is Winchester White Box (forget what its actually called, but its made by Winchester and comes in a white box) for $39 for 100 rounds at WalMart. That is literally the only thing I'll buy from there. If you're getting hollow point for home defense, that usually runs around $1 per round, no matter the size of the box.
I'm also looking into a Mosin. Something about a 7.62x54R cartridge with a steel-core bullet makes me want to go out in the desert and shoot large, heavy objects from long range.
Since this is a gun nuts thread -- and at the risk of setting off FBI alarms by asking about guns on the internet -- can someone recommend what steps to take for a complete novice wanting to become a legal and responsible gun user? And trust me, no step would be too basic or elementary.
Be a boss and get a Cobray StreetSweeper
A good first step is to go to an indoor range and ask for instruction with the house guns. From there you can decide what you want to own and for what reasons.
Those that recommend an extended mag, thanks. I'll see how it feels. Thus far I haven't felt super compelled to carry in public. My .40 works on my hip for hog deterrence in the swamp, but I'm thinking I'll carry more often in the future.

I posted this in another thread, but for those interested in following the concealed carry case in MD...
Maryland Shall Issue - The Citizens Defense League of Maryland
I havent' shot since I had kids :(
Still have a .22, a Mossberg 12 gauge pump, an SKS, Springfield Armory .45 1911, and a WWII Enfield.
I probably have the most Liberal viewpoint on guns on this board. I believe individuals should be allowed to own nuclear weapons. I've yet to meet any individual half as contemptuous for life and liberty as any government on this planet.
I was riding around my hunting property on a Rhino today with my S&W on my lap, begging for a coyote to run out. I had visions of the "get some!" helicopter scene from Full Metal Jacket.

maybe we shouldn't leave the ACC......
Dont own a gun never will I have my own protection.
But heard a very interesting interview yesterday saying that the Gov't wont come directly against the 2nd amendment but will regulate ammunition and then those that make their own ammo as a way of taking away your 2nd A rights.
For such a time as this.
No, that was a Chris Rock joke.
