Anyone else on here watch this show? I've ripped through all of season 1 and half of season 2 over the past 3 days. I'm really surprised by how much I've enjoyed it because it's description was not exactly up my alley (started watching it because my wife wanted to, usually not a good omen when it comes to tv shows).
It's very well written and superbly acted. Give it a try if you are looking for something new to watch.
Sounds like a British show. Try Peep Show. Easily one of the funniest shows I've ever watched. It's on Hulu and Netflix.
I got the shotgun. You got the briefcase. It's all in the game though, right?
Thanks for the thread! I LOVE this show.
I'm about halfway through season one but my watching has stopped dead in its tracks because I moved in with my boyfriend who is not enthusiastic about watching it. I try only to watch it when he's not around so I don't feel like I'm forcing him to watch. I have offered to start over from the beginning so we can watch it together.
Hopefully he sees this and considers my offer!
My fear going into it was that it was going to be like a tv show version of a Jane Austen book. Not exactly my idea of a good time. Your boyfriend might have the same fear. Just let him know you don't have to be a female to enjoy this show haha.
It's definitely on my list of shows to watch soon.

I wouldn't mind giving this show a try, but my wife hates all things British and thinks the show looks boring as heck.
My dad got into it too. I think he likes the historical relevance and how it's tied in.

I watched the first two seasons over the holidays. It's not a big investment....only 15 episodes.
I'm looking forward to season 3. It starts this Sunday.
Season 3 is fantastic - I'm excited to watch it again. Anyone can get into this show; it's really well done.
If you are looking to watch, and need to remind yourself of the show or catch up quickly, here are the first two seasons in 5 minutes.
Are you a fan of MASTERPIECE's Downton Abbey? Check out this fun overview of Downton Abbey's first two seasons in preparation for Season 3, premiering on PBS Jan. 6! More at http://www.pbs.org/downton
this sunday, awesome! Yes good show
I do love Sybil.
Yes. Like you, I watched season 1 and 2 over the holidays at the request of my wife and have also been pleasantly surprised.
Already watched season 3. It was just as good as the first 2 seasons.
I bought the DVD's for seasons 1 and 2 on Ebay after hearing excellent reviews from friends. My wife and I are currently watching them. It's a great series and very well written. We are DVR'ing season 3.
It's a very good show. Looking forward to season 3.
Excellent show. Mrs. 74 and I watched them as they aired during the last two winters. In season three, which starts this week, Shirley McLaine joins the cast as the American mother of Lady Grantham. I'm sure the sparks between her and Maggie Smith's Dowager Countess Violet will be something to behold.
Call me a relic, call me what you will,
Say I'm old-fashioned, say I'm over the hill....
Since I've already watched season 3, I'm going to comment very little in this thread, but yes, there were many good one-liners from each of them about the other.
Can't wait for the new season. I'm a big fan of Mr. Bates.
Lots of good characters in seasons 1 & 2 but the Dowager Countess was my favorite. She had some great lines. I'm sure the fireworks between Maggie Smith and Shirley MacLaine will be quite entertaining. Lady Mary and Lady Sybil aren't bad either.

anyone have a link where i can watch season 2?
Should be on projectfreetv.
I want to make a movie like Taken starring Mr. Bates. He has the stare, the delivery and the gravitas to pull it off.
I'm skeptical about the addition of someone as recognizable as Shirley Maclaine. Hopefully she will be used in small doses.
You're skepitcal about everything. Having someone as recognizable as Maggie Smith has certainly been a detriment to the show.
Everyone here seen Gosford Park its from the creator of this show, I think late 90s?
My wife and I watch Gosford Park at least once a year.
It's a very good film and similar to the plots of Downton, but I find Downton easier to follow. I've consistely found the sound quality (line delivery) on Gosford Park to be a little "muffled" making it one of those films that you really have to pay attention to. Not always a good thing if you are enjoying a glass (or three) of red wine while watching!
If you like this sort of show you should also check out "To The Manor Born" which was a British sitcom.
