There aren't enough firecrackers in the world to blow up half of them it seems. Stink bugs will be a long forgotten nuisance if these come out this year.
Gotta recognize when you're outnumbered or outgunned. Live to fight another day.

Cicadas = fish feeding frenzy = happy me
"It's just so hard," Greivis said. "It's my heart, my love. Maryland made me who I am."
Grab one. Pull front legs. Head pops off.
Also batting practice
2004. Driving on 495 where 66 merges in from the right. Hear the tell tale chirp. From directly behind my ear. Turn head slightly. Cicada on the seat belt. Scream. Swerve lanes. Almost kill myself and 5 other people. Get off on Rt. 50. It hops onto the back of my shirt collar. Jump out at the shopping center where Grevey's is located. Rip off shirt. Stomp on it. Get stared at by multiple horrified/amused passers by. Yeah - I will be spending 2021 in France.
You know that doesn't count without bolding or asterisks.
Our baseball team used to cool off on the hot days in May 04 along a treeline next to our field and we'd shake the trees and just go to town with our baseball bats. It was a regular occurrence. Damn I miss all of that now.
"Maryland football: Where everybody gets hurt and the starting left tackle has an existential crisis."
I'm a Brood IIer, I can tell you that the '79 invasion was epic very far into north AA county.
I think the stinkbugs win hand to hand, however, sources tell me that the high pitch frequency of the cicada in concert causes stinkbugs to explode.
I was 12 in 04 and playing for Parkville travel at the time. I would just remember standing in centerfield and stomping all over those fuckers
Also hiking through Double Rock Park and fishing with them after games, in full uniform. Yeah I miss that all so much too

Damn, it doesn't help that a local paper put up pictures of past state champions from Howard County last night and had one of those contests where the picture with the most likes gets on the cover or something. So of course all our teammates are commenting, liking, and reminiscing and got some of the old crew that came to all our games and stuff on there too.
Side story, but I'm pretty sure that its been posted before that a young reporter by the name of Jeff Ermann did a story about the chanting the varsity team did for the Washington Post the year after I graduated, which was a huge part of our team. Its easily found on google.
I love these things too and '04 was a bitter disappointment. We just moved up here and have a lot of really old trees so I figured it would be big. Not so. I went to Chevy Chase and they were as I remembered them, everywhere.
They are harmless and are great fishing bait. And they are a natural phenomenon. I like em
The worst part about cicada invasions are the huge cicada-killer wasps.
The pointlessness of their existence fascinates me.
They're miracles of evolution. If they emerged every year, the predator population would adjust and extinct them, but as it is, every 17 years or more often with regional overlap, the predators just get fat for one year.
I love them too, they remind me of the complexity of the universe, and that's what keeps me agnostic and not atheist.

Are you referring to the cicadas or the people who post on this board?
I don't mind them too much (even though most bugs creep me out) but the rotting carcass smell is disgusting.
I was in 8th grade then, grabbing them by the wings and throwing them at people during gym class was a good time.
Yes! Oh how the girls hated them and oh how i loved them.
im hearing pg plaza is the spot!
Any sign of these babies yet?
I'm coming to DC tomorrow for a couple of days and hope to enjoy The Awakening.
Random survey question: Cicadas vs. Repto-Sapiens -- who wins?
This is not our brood. I don't know why there is so much confusion on this. There will be a very, very few.
