Good showing by MD coming in 5th.
People routinely sleep on St. Mary's. It's probably the only in-state school besides MD and Hopkins that I'd strongly encourage the kids to look into.
St. Mary's has made these lists for a long time. I don't think too many people sleep on them.
My only issue with St. Mary's is it seems to be a college you go to before heading off to grad school. I know very few people who built their careers off their St. Mary's undergrad degree.
Yup, good place to go to before law/med school.
One of my best friends is a patent attorney who got his undergrad at St. Mary's. He loves the place, but warns it is a bit crunchy.
I graduated from St. Mary's in '92, it was crunchy then too :p I had a great time though, would definitely recommend it to anyone looking at smaller colleges.
St. Mary's is liberal arts, correct? Gotta be tough for business folk there
im sorry i was confusing...your "Superbowl" was the Redskins losing since you know that the Ravens cant win it all.
JMU #23. Send your daughters.
Is Salisbury a good school?

Nope. One step above a community college.
Here's a good editorial on the concept of "good value" in higher education.
Stony Brook #22.
Surprised we didn't get a better RPI bump.
Only if you want to be an NFL owner.
Went to St Marys on a recruiting visit in high school. Maybe it was the soccer team or the crowd I stayed with, but I was pretty unimpressed.
For what it's worth, the drug culture (things beyond weed) is pretty high and open there, at least compared to what I've seen at UMD.
I loved my time at Maryland, however, I think the school needs to improve in the career services department. I think just because of the size of the student body alone it is very easy to get lost in the shuffle. Maybe its improved since I graduated, but I honestly don't know what I would've done had I not gone staight to grad school (which worked out, but not exactly the most sound decision). If youre an in-stater (I wasn't) I still think going to Maryland is a no-brainer, I'd just like to see this aspect handled a little better.
The career center resources are pretty good if you utilize them. Individual departments are also pretty good at hooking up their students with opportunities, but that's obviously dependent on your specific department.
When you say St Marys is that different than Mount St Marys?
yes, very much so
St Mary's is in St Mary's County by the bay
Mt St Mary's is in Frederick County, almost in Pennsylvania
"Maryland football: Where everybody gets hurt and the starting left tackle has an existential crisis."
Good to hear. It just never comes up when discussing with friends. Always surprised by that.
No idea about the drug culture but the beer definitely flows freely there. And I think they just opened a pub on campus.
