Ah, got it. Then sure, private industry ought to go for the mining angle to their hearts' delight. If they can find an economical use for space-mined materials then more power to them.
Unless that bad boy is full of Hope diamonds there is no way it will pay for the expense of landing on it. Besides the interviews I've seen said the purpose is to deflect it before it turns England into Death Valley, not mine it. At least not now.

Pfff, the best thing we can do is to use weaponize the asteroids and make them rain down like nuclear bombs on our enemies without the fallout!
I'd guess technology used in tracking and protecting against asteroids might have some strategic military use here on Earth. Whatever technology can target an asteroid moving through space and keep it from landing on Earth can probably do some major damage to a target on earth and can probably pick an enemy missile out of the sky. If a system were to be built, it would be better to pay for it and control it rather than share it in any way.
Just give me the Normandy, and we'll be OK.
Apparently a good sized meteor/fireball just shot across the sky before 8:00. Anyone here see it or is everyone watching bball?
I've got 20 years head-start so I'm sure to survive!

I guess we didn't pray enough.
I didn't see it, but supposedly it was seen from DC to New England.
This is a pretty badass idea.
Hey guys, wanna party on an asteroid? NASA is apparently working to make that happen for all of us.
So they're getting out of the global warming business?
I think you misspelled dumbass.

we should just start launching asteroids into deep space to preemptively destroy other worlds.
Pic Sigs are for losers.
It worked for the bugs, kind of.
...Or at least, that's what they wanted us to believe.
That would provide the reptos meat on another planet so they don't have to look here.
Can't we just break the asteroids up with a triangle shaped space ship?
People talk about ways to get rid of nuclear stockpiles. Just launch all of the missiles out into space. We'll never see them again, and maybe we'll get lucky and one will hit a ship full of bad aliens.
