I'm thinking of him having to do extra work that he doesn't need to do.

Those supportive of the theory of global warming warn that this phenomenon represents a major threat to life on earth, but is global warming also a threat beyond our planet? On the face of it, the “global” aspect of global warming would lead one to believe that the threat of climate change is somewhat localized. For one CNN anchor, however, the challenges posed by global warming extend out into the solar system where they somehow created the circumstances that led to a near-earth asteroid just missing the planet.
Ignoring the complete stupidity and lack of a shred of scientific knowledge in the host, its pretty nuts that this asteroid is missing us by only 15 minutes.
What a cretin. In fairness, though, they all seem to be that stupid - at Fox News, too.
How To Be A Cable News Anchor
1. Commit a fundamental, preposterous, hyper-reactionary, HOF-level-of-stupidity science error which even a grade schooler could correct you on. Do it on live TV in front of one of the nation's most active proponents of science education and research.
...Less than a minute later...
2. Interrupt said expert because his efforts to put the asteroid into proper scientific and historical context are making the imaginary archetypal CNN viewer in your head too nervous.

Interactive simulation of the event (light blue dots represent satellites)
Its all kinds of bad if this thing clips one of the satellites in GEO.
It'll cross inside the geo belt (almost perpendicular to the equatorial plane), but it's not even going to come close to hitting anything.
I've always wondered the damage that could be done if some rogue nation launched a container full of ball bearings in a retrograde orbit at geo altitude. Luckily it would take a lot of energy to do that.

At that closing speed, I bet you'd hit more satellites and do plenty of catastrophic damage by filling the same container with sand.
Um.......part of it?
NASA spokesman Steve Cole told CNN that scientists had determined that the Russian meteor was on a very different trajectory from the asteroid.
"They are completely unrelated objects -- it's a strange coincidence they are happening at the same time," he said.
"This kind of object does fall fairly frequently, but when they fall into the ocean or desert, there is no impact on people -- so this one is unusual in the sense that it's come over a populated area."

Asteroid 2012 DA14 will come within 17,200 miles of Earth, closer than some satellites. Heres how to watch it online as it passes by Earth today.
This graphic shows that they aren't related. Compare how different their approach vectors are.
Do we know if Bruce Willy is en route?
