Wife and I had decided to get each other very little for Christmas and focus on gifts for the kids. So we had just gotten little things.
Then the 71-inch Sammy DLP in the main theater died on Christmas eve.
I replaced the lamp and it still isn't working. Looking online, it's quite possibly the logic board, for which the part itself is 1k. Could just be the ballast or the color wheel, but the TV repair places quoted way too much just for the diagnostics, and that's not even taking into account the cost of the part and the labor for installing it.
Sooo, I bought a new 70-inch 240Hz 3D Sharp Aquos Quattron LED yesterday. Should be here on January 4th.
Now, technically, when you buy it with your own money, it's probably not a gift. But it feels like one.
I called the Salvation Army to donate the TV today. When I told them what kind of TV it was, they said "oh, we have a warehouse full of those things. No thanks."
Anybody want a 5-6 yr old 1080p 71-inch DLP that should be relatively cheap to fix?
