Christmas Loot Thread

  • dexterstjacques said...

If twitter was around when I was 8 I would have complained that I didn't get a gameboy for Christmas (the only thing I asked for) and my brother got it instead (who asked for every single gaming console out at the time).

I guess I'll have to settle for (jokingly) bringing it up every year.

Never shaved with on before so I hope I don't have to change my sn to Scarface.

Smoother shave I guess is the most obvious benefit. And feeling like a classic bad-ass? And if kept in good shape, it could last years and save $ on disposables.

I got a good one years ago, and had a brush and good lather and all that stuff, but couldn't master that art one bit. My barber uses one on me, but it's the interchangeable blade type.

Speaking of shaving, just shaved tonight in a steam room after working out, no shaving cream or anything and it's phenominal, I got baby face tonight.

  • I was tickled to death that I got the first season of the Wire as well as the HBO Series The Pacific and to top it off Richard Pryor's Live on Sunset Strip AND Here and Now. Now for an ODB like me, that's quite a score, and I got other good and useful stuff too. I had a very Merry Christmas too.

  • bunch of restaurant gift cards
big box of peanut butter filled pretzels.
coin counting machine (batteries not included, so not sure I'll ever use it)

The only thing I actually asked for was money (and a BCS CG ticket, but I knew I wasn't getting that). Only three people of the ~10 or so I exchange didn't think I was asking for too much.

So did you also get a razor strap to keep it honed? I keep our kitchen knifes sharp with a steel and I am assuming that it would be relatively similar. I would like to try one as well. Maybe not for daily use, but when I have a little more time, and I am in a self grooming mode.

  • For starters, I got a trip to O's spring training, including home and away games. Then the normal stuff like sweaters, DVDs, t-shirts, etc... Definitely the most I've ever gotten, but I spent just as much.

  • On Sunday night I booked my flights to visit the gparents, going to one game in Sarasota, one Red Sox/Twins game at the new Red Sox facility, and then hopping on a plane to visit the mom and check out South Padre Island's spring break. That was my present to myself.

On Christmas night, I basically scrapped the entire plans for dinner that we had. The menu instead was:

    Tempura battered shrimp
    Tempura battered zucchini
    Zucchini chips
    Tempura battered squash
    Fried carrot sticks
    Hand-cut french fries
    Double-dipped panko encrusted chicken tenders

The only downside is that the unit is not large, so the food came out in waves. It was still awesome. Next up are beer-battered corn made with some kind of German sausage instead (kind of how Frisco's does it).

We did zucchini for the first time this year and it was amazing. We've also done crab cakes a few times. Theirs is small as well so I know what you mean about coming out in waves, that's why it's important to be the fry-master and sample everything before it goes out.

no doubt. i didn't say that i wouldn't have died happy! fried zucchini is one of my favorite "appetizers" in the world. not only is it great in your typical marinara dip, but it's really good in a horseradish dip. yummy!

try fried pickles! my girls LOVE them! oh, and I also love love love fried green tomatoes, but wait until you can get maryland tomatoes next july.
