  • Good place to live for young people? What are the best restaurants/bars? What areas should one avoid late at night?

  • Pro Football Hall of Fame loses some of it's majesty because it's right off the interstate.

  • Slightly older, more mature crowd than you will find in Federal Hill. Also more expensive. The Square is a pretty good area, and it's nice having a grocery store so close and easily accessible. I like Looney's and Claddaugh's myself. Nacho Mama's is good if you want to get hammered off margaritas.

  • Agreed - I think the Safeway in Canton is nicer than some of the other city groceries. The Square is nice too; JDs is another good place.

I like being near Patterson Park (you want to live below it) and you're also close to the Brewers Hill Panera and Five Guys.

all the bars on the square + bay cafe (not food) are good for drinks and have decent specials,
birches, blue hill tavern, annabell lee, sushi san, all good food places

I'm doing some serious looking around right now and have found in my searches that Federal Hill is slightly more expensive. Currently pretty open to any decent neighborhood though

  • Yeah, the prices I've seen through research on Craigslist suggest Canton is the cheaper option.

Second the nomination for JD's roadhouse. Safeway is a million times better than the Shoppers in Fed Hill, though Harris Teeter's arrival could change that. If the gym is important to you, Merritt in Canton is open 24 hours a day (unlike its Fed Hill brother). No permit parking means your friends can visit anytime without having to park blocks away or park in 'less than legal' spots.

BTW---a Chipotle is going in where Brocato's used to be, in the shopping area in front of Safeway.

A little cheaper is the Canton Club gym, which is above Bo Brooks. They're 24 hours as well.

If you're referring to Patterson Park, yes but during daylight. Not to say you can't run at night, I just wouldn't. I live by Patterson Park in Fells Point and regularly run laps around it in the AM; never had a problem.

During the day, yes, but I always go running on the water.

  • LOL of course the park is safe.

its extremely safe when its light. I have friends that live on baltimore ave (north of the park) and they have no problems with it. I used it almost every day in the summer/fall last year and its not a problem. They apprehended the crazy dude stabbing latinos, so don't have to worry about that (plus i'm assuming you aren't an off the boat hispanic dude)

  • Surprised to hear that Fed Hill is more expensive now, although I'd say that's the most desireable place for college grads to live these days.

I'd suggest Fed Hill then, although if you are ok with cabbing it over then Canton is a fine choice. You could always pick Fells and split the difference, but that's a different crowd for the most part.

  • I already chose Canton. I think getting a little farther from Camden Yards is going to do wonders for my bank account. How much is a cab over to fed hill from canton? $20?
