Breaking Bad Game Thread - civs win

Thanks, you did good at the end too. Btw I am 100% convinced leaving Ryala alive was the right play.

    Thanks for the game Eagles.

Same. If we think he is very likely to be Mafia 2 then keeping him alive is right.

Agreed about Ryala - I was kinda shocked that Ryala came out and blatantly said he was hitting the cop, I expected a play to the civs, but ultimately, that let him live longer.

It was the play, Redwing was sketchy - had he revealed/made those couple of posts that he did at the end of the round a few minutes before, I don't think he is lynched and a better result happens, but I know he just missed getting back early enough to post it.

  • Yeah under no circumstance should the civs have lynched Ryala if he was mafia 2 (which I thought there was a pretty strong case for being correct). Mafia 1 would be forced to hit him and every round they don't, the mafia night hit goes from having only one positive civ result (indy dying) to three, with the chance that one of the two mafia 1 members would be hit.

Did you really think I was mafia at the end?

    I did.

You asked him the same question three times about how he got his investigatory powers, even though he had already explained it to SLT.

"It's just so hard," Greivis said. "It's my heart, my love. Maryland made me who I am."

  • Also lol at my blunder of a night 4 investigation when MY mafia stopped all night actions that night. Good catch redwing. I might be able to talk around that but TF22 investigation daggered me. Good plays.

RaiseHigh said... No. This is jtp's doing. He's kept me around for his bizarre HOF resume.

  • Good game by everyone. Thanks to SLT for pulling it back together at the end after a pretty poor run through the first 6 or 7 rounds. Also a strong game by 7erps and tf22.

We had a lengthy discussion in dead chat about it, and I still can't be convinced that leaving ryala alive was a good play... but I'm a bit biased. I admit that in an ideal situation, by leaving ryala alive there should have been an additional investigation by the cop. However, in a game with three hostile factions, there are too many moving parts to count on everyone doing what they "should." Also, ryala ended up making the kill shot on damo the next round, so that compounded the problem. Ultimately I should have revealed sooner, but I didn't think there was any chance that people would have actually not lynched the revealed mafia. I expected ryala to go, followed by a quick run-up on me the next round when I could claim and probably get out of a lynch. I also never understood the case against me, since I had a pretty stellar voting record, supported beakum and gs, and only supported Raise in round 1 which is what any sane player would do. Ultimately, I was off on my call on damo anyway, so I don't know how much it would have helped in the end.

Still, it was a really fun game and I'm glad I got to be a civ and actually participate, Good job again, Eagles.

Yea how bad was I for rounds 4-7?

Yea but it doesn't matter if he hits TF22 or not. It's the right play for him to leave him alive because he is already caught and can't get more caught. So Mafia 1 has to hit him the next round. But even still the worst result is what would happen even if he is lynched. He kills TF22. TF22 dies either way in that situation. Take a shot at killing a member of Mafia 1.

When Ryala revealed he was basically a lame duck for 2 rounds because he couldn't really affect night action. Just put him on the backburner for a couple rounds unless you believe he has some crazy power that is activated after night 6 or something?

  • I'm not what has been discussed and ill read this all later, but that was about the worst luck I've seen in a Mafia game. Twice hit at night and our sole remaining player had a post restriction and a power that required him to kill himself. I tend to think we got shafted with powers, even though I have no clue what the other guys had. Doofus had to vote for Mafia and Ryala had to kill himself. I could become a GF, but the chances of me not getting investigated, outliving Gus, and having the cop outlive Gus, and getting invesitgated after that, is like 1/50 games at best. Add to it the bad luck and Ryala did a great job sticking as long as he did.

    TortugaGrande

  • @ Titan - You acquiring godfather powers were basically useless in my calculation, just a small bonus to throw in. Your investigative powers were the strongest powers you guys had, and could have been used creatively to role claim. I also gave you a strong fake claim in Andrea that could've been used especially after Raise's role was revealed.

Doofus was basically a generic mafia goon since his role was withheld. Duff's power guaranteed confusion among multiple players being silenced who weren't you guys so you could stay out of the limelight for a few days, and ryala's power was a power to use if the game was breaking right, say night 4 you guys are alive and the cop has just come out for example.

The way it ended up playing out with you dying early, it did severely neuter your squad, and mafia 1 hit their first two sales despite having a small % chance of that happening which probably gave them more powers than you. If instead of their mafia capping you, you had capped one of the two people needed for them to make sales, they would have been hampered, or if you hit Gus they would've missed an entire night hit etc. Just so happened the way it played out really screwed you guys. I was considering giving more powers to mafia1 before the game started because I thought your mafia was stronger but that would have been a mistake. I think they were about even and some good luck between sales/numbers staying alive so long, and bad luck on your part in getting hit at night tilted things drastically the other direction.

there were no other meth heads in the chat at any point (or people claiming that role).

The argument against lynching ryala is simple: if he's mafia 2, he has no real incentive to kill the cop there because it requires mafia 1 to kill the cop instead of him at night, so the civs may get an extra investigation out of it.

The argument for killing ryala is also simple: a game like this has a lot of permutations, and it's hard to pass up on mafia. Further, there was no guarantee ryala was mafia 2. If ryala was mafia 1, he should have claimed to be mafia 2 for the same reasons. Mafia 2 obviously wouldn't counter-claim. When the cop ended up dead, I figured someone would consider maybe ryala lied and was mafia 1, and mafia 2 killed the cop because the cop's investigations still could have some utility but that was never brought up.

I think I did raise that possibility as part of my reasoning when I pushed for him after letting him slide the first time.

I floated the idea of numbers outing 7erps before going to bed. When I woke up numbers had alreadyran with it so iI guess it was my bad?

It was ultimately my call...I just love Knight getting all pompous on a high horse about him being some fantastic mafia player and looking down on me as if I'm a "n00b". While I know there are mixed opinions on here about the Wake boards and mafia I've played over there for five years off and on, so it's not like I don't know the guidelines for mafia.

I wouldn't pay attention to it. The general consensus over here is that he isn't good but he seems to be completely oblivious to that and posts as if he is giving a lecture. I think he is trolling but I always take the bait so lol at me.

    Finally

    7erps

  • Surprised there was no discussion of gs's chat room. That was a new twist to the game. While it didn't play a huge role other than to add to the confusion and distrust, it had the potential to be a very interesting twist. Had my son not had a football game, toogs would have been able to clear me and I him (though I already had because of his exchange with gs about damo and damo's claim that "civs didnt have names". I understood what damo meant, as did toogs.

Again, fun game. Sorry I missed out on the civil war game. Sounds interesting.
