Beltway Traffic?

Is there any possible way to avoid the traffic on 495? I live in College Park and just got transferred to the Tyson's Corner office at my job. I understand that people aren't going to want to give away their secrets, but any help would be appreciated. If I have to sit in that traffic all summer long I am going to die.
If anyone could reply or PM me an easier way to get from Tyson's back to College Park in the afternoon commute I would greatly appreciate it!

Youre going to need to move. That sounds like literally the worst possible commute.
Or wait until the silver line opens up, at which point it'll only take like an hour and a half.

Don't attempt this commute for too long. It will wear on you. Just move.

Not sure about Maryland, but once you across the bridge, get off at Georgetown Pike. Take a right.
Left on Swinks Mill.
Right on Lewinsville.
Left on Springhill, which will become International.
That will take you directly to Tysons.
You need to move.

I did College Park to Dulles for about 2.5 months last fall. It just plain sucks. Just move if you plan to do it long term or work a 7AM-3PM day.

I am only working there till August 8th, so it isnt for too long. I just don't know how people do this every day of their lives. I figured there had to be a better way. A friend of mine mentioned something like George Washington Memorial Parkway being a good way to go.

I turned down a job offer because that was going to be my commute and I didn't want to move to NoVa.

This is the actual solution. Any significant beltway commute you either need to do before 6 or after 11am and before 4 or after 9 pm.

I did this commute last summer and for the beginning of this summer...the only way to avoid it is to either leave at 6:30 in the am or after 7ish in the pm. In the morning I would leave at 7:30ish and could get down there in about 45 minutes on an average day so thats not too bad. The afternoon though is usually awful and can take over 90 minutes on most days. If you're not carpooling with anyone I would say just work out after work for a bit and leave after 7. If you leave then you can usually get home in less than an hour. Most buildings in the area have gyms you can use so hopefully you wouldnt have to pay money.

@Historicus Ehh I left work around 2:30/3ish when I had training in Tyson's and traffic was already built up even then. Its just awful in the afternoon.

That commute is nothing, for the past year I have been doing Leesburg to Alexandria (greenway to toll rd to 495), after a while you just get immune to it...No, I am not moving, I have nice house with acreage and a family, plus this job pays nicely.
Upside: Vacations where I now drive seem like peanuts compared to years past...

A long drive is one thing. Once or twice a week I have to commute 65 miles but it isn't bad because there's generally only light traffic. But long drive + awful beltway traffic could be suicide-causing.

I go Arlington to CP everyday (opposite traffic, GW Pkwy to 495 and back) and leave at 515-530. I get to work at 6ish and leave at 330. Quickest I make it home is 410 (40 mins) and that is against traffic.
So dont do it.

I understand how crappy the CP area to Dulles area daily commute would be, but you all should realize that there's a lor of people these days doing the M-F East Coast to West Coast commute (or vice versa), or here in TX, the M-F SA - Houst, SA - Dallas, Dallas - Houston, etc commute -you don't even see your family for a week at a time, routinely.

I've been doing Westminster, MD to SW DC for about a year (60 miles). Its miserable but having xm and checking googlemaps with the traffic layer on can be beneficial. My commutes also begin at 5:30am and 7:00pm. Oh and I have one of those expensive ass radar detectors that detects everything. Good luck.
