Assumptions You Make Based on Facebook

  • Probably deactivating during a job search or something.

I know a girl who has crazy parents. Like completely insane. She deactivated her facebook when she went home for breaks from school because they'd be pissed if they knew she had it. Yeah. Nuts.

My step sister has a littler of children and is currently pregnant. All she posts on facebook is crap about her kids or seeking attention for being pregnant. Yet when we saw her at Thanksgiving, she completely ignored her children the other night, leaving my mom and wife looking after them.

My cousin does the same thing. I always want to call her out on it.

This is the same cousin who has never held a job in her life, has three kids, currently on welfare posting from her blackberry about her kids playing PS3 and whether she should go shopping for Black Friday or go out to the club with friends, but taking time from her busy schedule to make sure everyone knows just how hard her life really is.

Nothing pisses me off more than when I know someone is living off the system is posting status updates to their facebook from their blackberries or androids.

First I've heard of this dynamic. What the is the reasoning?

the people I know that deactivate facebook at times (myself included) mostly do it because it can represent a pretty big distraction during midterms and finals. then we bring it back what we're less stressed

  • I had a friend who was afraid her sister was kidnapped while they were in Italy because she didn't come home or have any contact with her for 2 days. I know this is legitimately scary especially for young girls, but do you need to update facebook every hour? Aren't there other things you need to do during times like this? (she was okay btw)

  • When people post rhetorical questions on their status, I hate that with a passion. Also not a big fan of when people exploit their kids for attention of FB. There is a woman in our town who's son hurt his ankle this fall and every time the kid would go to the doctor or right after his surgery she would post updates and put PRAYERS PLEASE!!! Then all of the other wives would fawn all over her and tell her they are thinking of her.

Housewives are the worst though. I hate the status updates about what they are cooking or where they took their kids for a walk today. Does anyone actually give a crap about this stuff? When people go on vacation, esp the beach they put up statuses that say "I'm at the beach, be jealous!" I always laugh and think wow thats an in your face message.

I miss the original facebook when it was just open to college students. Kids and old people have ruined it now.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I actually find that the fawning/sympathizing/etc comments piss me off even more than the original comments. If your stupid kid is keeping you so busy, then why on earth do you have so much time to post the most inane details of your life on facebook every 30 minutes?

  • People who grew up in the north but now live in the south and constantly give weather updates during the winter I view as very insecure people. People in the north who respond "soooo lucky :)" or "brrrrrr :(" are idiots.

Right, they should respond "that sucks, we have 4 feet of epic snow."

  • The only thing I ever post as my status is sports stuff, usually while im watching a game. Like the last one I think I posted was about Brotzman.

    WMTerp12

  • I like how FB is all about marketing yourself to other ppl, friends or acquaintances or otherwise. I know a girl who posts "i love my bf!!" and sappy status updates all day, and has her and her bf as her profile pic, and then sends me PMs every week about how he's verbally abusive and she's looking for an escape to get out of the relationship. Why pretend to be so in love?... unless you have a need to make your single girlfriends jealous (maybe I just answered my own question)

  • I am resisting strong urges to get all dramatical on facebook right now. It would blow off some steam, but ultimately it's just not a good look.

    aschaefe

  • yeah but sometimes you get gems like this

"I know im going to get in trouble for saying this but im really ahhhhh right now.I support "my bf" in every way with this band stuff. But really they have been together 3yrs and there going no where.I dont know what else to say...But shake my head"

  • I cut down my friends list by like 60% a few weeks ago and life is a lot better.

  • Is this the new Pathetic/Humorous Facebook Posts thread? I just got:

"I may offend/lose a lot of friends for this, but I can't take it anymore. DAMN atheists and their right to freedom of speech. It's fine if you want to wallow in your apparently meaningless life, but have some respect for people who enjoy celebrating life, especially the birth of THE ONE. Quit trying to ruin this wonderful season for everyone, and keep your own offensive opinions to yourself for once. *Sigh*"

  • Since there's no longer a "girls sports facebook status thead", I'll post this one that I just saw here:

    Guy friend:
So whose {sic} going to the Eagles game tomorrow?

    Some girl:
Is that the Houston / Eagles game? I have a friend who really wants to go!

I up-voted TerpBE just for using {sic} when quoting a misspelled word from a Facebook status. That's amazing technique BE!

Wow, I apparently have a different set of friends because if you saw the statuses I see every day you'd think I have the same circle of friends as Billy Graham.

Glad to know she's not pregnant, at least.

  • Is anyone else's friends playing the "numbers" game today? Where someone messages you a question with a number. They repost the number & the answer to your question.

My news feed is full of it and I'm sick of it. These games ruin FB. My mom asked me the other day why I didn't change my profile picture to a cartoon character to raise awareness about child abuse. Seriously?

I had several of the cartoon types post something like "ZOMG CHANGE YOUR PICTURE BACK! THE CARTOON THING WAS SO PEDOPHILES CAN MORE EASILY ATTRACT KIDS TO BE FACEBOOK FRIENDS".

I want to punch people who fall for **** like this in the head with a tack hammer.
