Anyone want to make $200k a year?

  • All it takes is moving to Australia and becoming an underground miner. I didn't know that the average income in Australia is $67k. Wow!!! It's over $100k for miners. Plus, while we stop the mining industry in the U.S. there is always someone who will fill the demand that we are forced to walk away from. Who needs a dirty job anyway? This might be a career opportunity for 286?

He's got a job in oil and gas, and he's still thinking of going to Europe to play ball while he's young enough to play, drink beer and chase the frauleins.

Oh, and from the demand for future jobs, Australia isn't going anywhere. Can't say the same for here.

  • Where can I apply? I'd live in Australia for alot less than that. I had been reading that there was a huge mining boom in Australia, maybe they'll need some mediocre lawyers to move there to help craft the mine safety/black lung compensation systems

  • Tiffles would take a pay cut, but they do have lots of white women in Australia.

They aren't looking for lawyers. They are looking for surface and underground miners. Did you read the article and the story about the miner who had a choice of going into the mines or to jail for bashing in some guy's head? No problem with the Personnel Department evidently. And it's not underground coal mines they are talking about so no black lung. They do have a HUGE surface coal mining industry there though. Like I have said, if we don't want mining that's fine. Someone will respond to the demand.

  • Pretty sure that the mining towns in Western Australia make Salton City look like Manhattan, but yeah I would do that for at least a year to wipe out my debt.

  • Everything in Australia is like 1.5x as expensive due to exchange rates and shipping, that's why their median salary is so high, it has to be due to cost of living.

Do you think they count aborigines in the Outback into their average for wage earners? There might not be many of them to average in though? Just wondering and musing over that one.

  • money dont mean much if you cant have fun at it. their lives have to suck. they will be set when they are older but there is no fun to be had when you are old. ill make $200k as a cpa anyway.

I agree that their lives probably suck. But wait? You are going to make $200k as a CPA? Oh, and you just lost all of your swag by admitting that you are going to be a CPA.

There are Players and Scorekeepers and accountants are usually just keeping score. Sorry, 286, you may be young and handsome, but there's zero swag in accounting.

    EliTerp

  • haha you right. actually i dont want to do accounting, but thats my degree and it looks good. ill end up doing something else,

Degrees are just tickets that get you into the game. Accounting is a usable credential to get you in the game anyway. Hell next thing we'll learn is that you've got a steady gal like ZNate. In the meantime, rock on.

Western Australia is freaking remote even to Australians.

  • Eli, can miners even get life or disability insurance? The premiums must be at levels like NASCAR and Indy drivers.

I'd rather work in a mine than sit behind a computer and stare at #'s all day.

  • Buddy just got back from a work trip there and he was astonished at the cost of living. Sydney and Canberra were much higher than NYC--think there's a VAT there? Also said they have a minumum wage that can go up to $18/hr.

  • lol at being an accountant lol at making 200K before partner or director. Do you want to sell your soul to the devil. Eli explained it well. Accounting is sitting on the sidelines, Im tired of sitting on the sidelines, put me in the game coach. Jobs are dividied into value added, and non-value added services. Accounting is non value added. I hate this shit.

Everywhere I ever worked, union and non-union mining companies, both life and disability insurance were part of the employee benefit package for the people who actually worked in the mines just as it was for management.
