  • Just got a Droid Bionic. 4G is RIDICULOUS. My home internet (DSL) connection is 3mb/s.... I'm getting 18-22 mb/s on my phone.

LOL @ people who just locked themselves into 2 years of the slow-ass iPhone HSPA+ or EVDO.

  • Jealous. I still have my Incredible for another 2 months........let me know how the Bionic is in about a month or two. Battery life and what not.

    EricTerp

  • What kind of battery life are you getting on it? I assume you can't last w/ 4g enabled the entire day, right?

Any phone/network that can't last the whole day is a big issue for me. Hell, occasionally my 3gs can't last the full day if I'm using it a ton.

I just embarrassed myself with this post

I have no idea what any of this means but I assume somewhere in there, there's a dig on me.

I'll give a report on battery life tomorrow... I haven't had a chance to fully charge/discharge the thing yet. Performance wise the Bionic is a fast little minx... I just can't wrap my mind around having such fast speeds.

EAM, The dig is on all of you that just locked yourself into a phone for 2 years that will never be able to touch 4G speeds. If you're on AT&T the fastest theoretical speed you can get is 14 mb/s but practically it's probably 7-10 mb/s. Fast, but still not comparable to what Verizon is putting out there with their LTE network. The Verizon iPhones that people just purchased are locked into 3 mb/s speeds for the next two years.

But you know that I still <3 you (your computer should be in the mail by the end of the week).

  • Love my bionic, have had it since launch day and have no complaints. No 4G in my area unril November 17th so can't really report on that outside of my week in Vegas, but didnt use it much when i was there.

I can answer this. You will not get through a full day on 4G with heavy use with any phone. When i was in vegas my car charger couldnt keep up with the use of 4G and GPS. Best thing to do is toggle it off when you dont need it. On 3G all day with moderate to heavy use I get about 15-18 hours of battery life on my bionic.

  • How buggy are your android phones? That's the only issue keeping me from buying a nice android phone right now.

  • I currently have a Droid X that I got in summer of '10, so I'm thinking of upgrading soon. I'm interested to see how the reviews come in for the Droid Razr and eventually the Nexus Prime.

not very, the vz rep a got the phone from told me to take the battery out once a week and it would run like a champ, which has been the case for the year i've had it.

  • I just ordered a Samsung Galaxy S2 yesterday and can't wait for it to arrive. Also Ice Cream Sandwich is right around the corner which should be pretty cool.

  • I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on the Motorola Droid Razr. Looks quite spiffy...

The New DROID RAZR - Android Smartphone - Ultra-Thin - KEVLAR Strong - Overview - Motorola Mobility, Inc. USA

DROID RAZR: faster, thinner, smarter, stronger. A powerful dual-core processor, ultra-thin design, Super AMOLED Advanced display and made strong with KEVLAR® fiber.

  • I ordered the galaxy s2 as well after a lot of deliberation (was between 4s and galaxy s2--coming from iphone 3G).

    Should be here tomorrow.

The nexus prime announcement is actually later tonight. If it is really that much better and somehow available on at&t, I may swap but from what I have seen so far, the s2 is probably better for my needs (appears to be smaller size to fit in a pocket nicely--but not iphone small, possibly better camera, definitely cheaper). The projected screen resolution on the nexus prime is intriguing though.

  • Galaxy Nexus and Ice Cream Sandwich being announced in about an hour. Can't wait for this, been holding on to my upgrade for 3 months now.

Moto RAZR looks sexy too, if it had come out a month ago, I would've been all over it.

Early release dates say both will be out 11/10

  • I like the hardware specs on the Nexus, but it doesn't look very sexy.

  • Someone explain to me the differences between all the Android phones. I get some are faster or whatever, and I get 4G vs 3G, but honestly, aside from screen size and 4G what features are there that the average user really notices? I am genuinely curious, because I believe I have the worst Android phone ever. (LG Optimus V I think)

Well in Amurika, choosing a phone means choosing a carrier. If you have an optimus V, you have a great price (Virgin Mobile) and so-so coverage depending on where you are (Sprint with no roaming).

If we are just talking about phones without respect to plans...
    -screen size
    -chip speed
    -sliding keyboard?
    -shipped OS version
    -android skin type (if any)
    -screen resolution
    -mobile data speed
    -3d (if you care)
    -NFC (if you care)
    -camera res
    -camera flash included?
-battery life (though they all suck)
    -RAM/application storage
    -front facing cam?
    -FM radio?

..just off the top of my head.

  • BTW, thanks for calling this thread "Android" as opposed to "Droid". I was always afraid I was interrupting a Verizon circle jerk when it was called "Droid". ;)

  • ICS looks pretty impressive from the youtube video. The Galaxy Nexus looks pretty sweet but still not sure if the screen size (4.65) is optimal for a personal phone.

I used to have a 4.3 display and it was fine. I'd have to actually test drive one, but I'm thinking it would be perfect for a lot of users.
