  • I don't care what anyone says. I have already developed--in the past two days--an unhealthy and irrational hatred for all things Purdue. Yes, of course, I despise PSU, but I'm talking about a passionate, senseless hatred, with no basis for it. Maybe it's because the only image that springs to mind when I think of Purdue is that old, sour prune of a coach they used to have.

    If anyone has other reasons to hate Purdue, I'd love to hear them.

    Where did you get your numbers? I'm surprised, you actually got the number right for Obnoxious Sleazy Unethical.
    The only thing I can think of is you found the record for the highest attendance.

  • Putting in a plug for my alma mater, Illinois (soon to be Illannoy to you).

    Sure you guys can go the cliche route and hate Michigan, Ohio State or Penn State. Because I'm sure some College Park T-shirt proprietor will convince himself he's the first ever person to come up with the idea of selling "Ann Arbor is a Whore" or "Muck Fichigan" shirts like you can get on every Big Ten campus now. Or maybe you think nursing jealous grudges against Izzo for his March success or loathing the boredom of Bo Ryan basketball is the way to go and you'll just assimilate into another boring Big Ten fanbase like everyone else. But I would urge you, Maryland, to dare to be different and take your own unique path like the special snowflake (It does snow in Maryland, right?) that you are. Hate someone who actually has the capacity to reciprocrate your hatred.

    Hate Illinois!

    Now I've seen these posts saying that Illinois is not worth hating because we suck at football so bad. Well duh. We're a basketball school, just like Maryland is. But as a side note, we're a basketball school with just as many BCS appearances (2) as Iowa, Nebraska and Penn State and more BCS appearances than Michigan State, Northwestern, Purdue, Minnesota, Indiana... despite only having three +.500 regular seasons in the BCS era. LOL.

    So with that out of the way, here's our hate/mockery profile at Illinois:

    1. Monochromatic, over-caffeinated, TV-adored student section... sound familiar?
    2. We play basketball in a cement spaceship.
    3. If the wind blows north, it smells like poop thanks to the South Farms not too far away from said spaceship.
    4. Our Quad has a corn plot on it.
    5. We are the best basketball school to never win the NCAA tournament... with all the inferiority complex/pride that entails for our fanbase.
    6. Our halftime basketball/football show remains a weird tribute to a "racist" mascot (the Chief) indian that was eliminated at the insistence of the NCAA years ago --- before most of the current U of I seniors would have even applied to attend the school.
    7. Illinois is a deceptively long state, which will infuriate you if you attempt to attend a game in Champaign-Urbana and fly into Chicago and discover that a 2.5-3 hour road trip down I-57 that awaits you after you get off the airplane.
    8. We already have a Big Ten traveling trophy game that features a wooden turtle and it doesn't include you.
    9. Illinois got in some hot water with the NCAA this year... for its football coach dipping snuff during a game.
    10. We've been in the Big Ten conference for 100 years and we've still not developed a true rival.

    So bring on the hate.

    Or you can just be lame and hate people because their teams will beat you or the fans are douches. no

  • I upvoted the effort, but my family is originally from northern Illinois so I've always liked you guys. A last second three pointer would probably be enough to fix that, though.

  • Obviously, if you ask this question, fans of every Big 10 school will give you their opinion of which schools THEY hate the most because they're coming from their observations and point of view. I'm a Buckeye, so here's who you should hate from my point of view:

    FOOTBALL:

    Ohio State: We're universally hated (not just in the conference either) for all the reasons already mentioned. Might as well get on board with it now. Our fans are passionate to the point of insanity, and we don't apologize for it. I would like to say, though, that there haven't been any good post-game riots since the early 00's and even then we never burned opposing fans' cars. We burned our own cars, presumably for the insurance. (Is that covered?) If our rivals are going to bring that up, at least get the story straight. And those couches? They might have been infested with bed bugs. Maybe they were doing the community a favor? Or not. LOL. Also, I haven't heard of any abuse of opposing fans since 2006, and while that might not sound all that impressive, at least we're trying.

    *ichigan: Despite what their fans will tell you, they're every bit as arrogant and obnoxious as us. That's why their our biggest rivals. They're just as big of a-holes as we are.

    Speaking of a-holes: Wsconsin has horrible fans. So does Penn State. If you're looking for a rival, this is probably it. These guys are close by, there's a history there, and now that you're in the conference, you'll have a whole new list of reasons to hate PeeSU.

    Rutgers: Again, if you're looking for a rival, this is a good one. They're close and they're coming into the conference the same time as you. It'll be a battle for the best 'new kid' in town.

    HOOPS:

    Sparty: Sounds like you already have reason to hate them. I assure you, that buzzer beater they're already talking smack about is the tip of the iceberg. Little Brother likes to run his mouth. In both sports, really.

    Indiana: Don't let the silence around that hornet's nest fool you. They were the best, by far, in the Big 10 under Bob Knight and their b-ball fans were every bit as obnoxious as OSU and UM football fans. They seem to be on the rebound, so watch out. Once Maryland's program is back to the elite status we're accustomed to, this could be a good hoops rivalry.

    We are a basketball school. I know it is tough for schools from your conference to wrap their head around, but our most hated rivalries stem from basketball, not football (aside from PSU, apparently). We don't really care enough about our football team.

    True but if the football team is good too they'll receive plenty of attention too. I'm sure many people enjoyed beating Clemson at their house than any random Duke win.
