    What are Purdue fans like?

I picture them as the midwestern version of NC State hick fans, only maybe with a bit of a tech/geek twist. But that's sort of a wild, uninformed impression.

I'm not sure about their fans, but it seems as though every single fucking player is too old to be on the team because they have gotten 2-3 medical redshirts.

See: Robbie Hummel - Great, great basketball player... one of the best ever to be in the B1G, but there is a trend he seemed to have begun at Purdue.

purdue fans don't exist. At least not football ones. Their stadium is consistently empty, usually other teams fans take over their stadium. Just kind of a gloomy ugly looking environment.

Every time they come here, there aren't many of them at all. I remember seeing 1 outside the stadium all game day.

Welcome to the B1G, terps! Can't wait to make a road trip to Byrd someday and see Maryland come to Michigan Stadium someday. I find it ironic that the terrapins are now here because I have 3 tortoises as pets. I guess I'll have to put Michigan flags on their cages when Michigan plays MD. biggrin

Looks like most likely this will create a B1G Lacrosse conference as well (assuming rutgers does in fact follow suit tomorrow). Michigan just started their program last year after being a very successful club team since 1940. This means there will be Michigan, ohio, PSU, UMD and most likely rutgers. Plus all of those teams plus northwestern on the women's side. Should be interesting.

Michigan and the Terps have met 3 times on the football field and 6 times on the hardwood. Michigan won all 3 meetings in football (1985, 1989 & 1990). But the basketball series is deadlocked at 3-3 with the most recent meeting coming in 2008 with the terps winning @ Comcast Center.

Assuming Edsall is still UMD's coach when 2014 rolls around, Michigan is 1-0 against him. A rich rod coached Michigan team beat down his uconn team that won the Big East that year 30-10 in the rededication game at Michigan Stadium.

Always cool to see people walk into The Big House for the first time. I always get a huge kick out of their reactions, especially when nebraska visited last year. So make sure you come visit! Good luck the rest of this football season!

    Go Blue!

Has there been any indication that another school might field a Varsity Lacrosse program? Apparently without six there is no conference affiliation. No offense but there are probably 10 High School teams in our area that could beat the teams from the MCLA,so it will probably take Michigan several years to be on a level with other D1 teams

Actually, no one really complains about Purdue fans. In fact I'm not sure when was the last time I, or any Michigan fan, saw one. They seem to be a civil bunch, but maybe the engineering course loads and depressing football keep'em down.

I know that it's going to take awhile. Take a look at Michigan's 2013 schedule (attached pic). They sure aren't taking the easy way to the top. Usually programs transition to the NCAA or take a few years to start their program. Michigan went straight from the MCLA to NCAA and played with club players last year. Had a 1-13 season.

It's just exciting being apart of all these firsts in Michigan Lacrosse history. Being one of the first season ticket holders, seeing the first meeting between Michigan and ohio and being at the first Battle at The Big House will be something I'll be able to say to my kids and grandkids someday.

I'd say the next B1G team to add men's lacrosse would be northwestern. They have a dynasty at the women's level, already have the facilities.

Are you saying that girls aren't in any which way possibly appealing to you?

There are attractive girls in Ann Arbor. Just that East Lansing has much more of them. My parents are Michigan alums but I am much more familiar with EL as it's around the corner from where my mother currently lives. Really sad that the Post is gone, but Harper's is my favorite spot.

Kate Upton is a Michigan fan. It's been well-documented.

Casey Anthony, famous baby murderer, is an ohio fan. You decide. biggrin

  • Purdue fans are like some rare species you see on a National Geographic documentary about endangered species narrated by David Attenborough saying "The rare, elusive Purdue fan has never been caught on film before today and is barely known to science..." They're basically non-existent, I don't think a gathering of more than 10 of them in one place has ever happened in history. Their 247 board is a total ghost town and like the others said their home games are usually dominated by the opposing team's fans. If you get enough people to go there you'll get an extra home game when you play them.

  • Why do we need to ask B1G posters about Purdue fans?? Didn't any of you guys go to Orlando 6 years ago??

    "Ravens" minus "Ray" equals "Vens".

    Cremesicle

  • and BTW on the Purdue = State comparison, umm, NO. Purdue = Tech.

  • We already hate Ohio State fans. At least I do. So I think we'll fit right in.

  • Also this board is slowly dying. Most of our fans post on the premium board (pay to play), or the general sports board (free), or the off-topic board (free).

Do you know what happens when ohio gets their ass kicked in columbus and what their fan reaction is like?

Don't bring the kids. In 2000 it was like one of those gang movies where two groups are both walking towards each other with an inevitable brawl coming.

I don't know how you would know. When's the last time scUM won in the shoe?

In Purdue's defense (although me defending them sort of proves your point), their basketball team is probably anywhere from 8-10 in the Big Ten this year and they still sellout most/all of their games, non-conference included. They also own the most Big Ten basketball titles with 21 (Indiana has 20).

Purdue is still an Indiana school: they care about basketball first and foremost.
