UVA and UNC...

  • How amazing would it be if Duke and UNC just followed us to the B10?

I'd rather have UNC and UVA then watch Duke die

  • Imagine that the ACC might be filled with BoD in the end, but my god they might have alot of money for old Swofford to customize the F150 with.

  • they'd have to admit they are full of shit to take duke. not going to say it won't happen, but they would.

  • I can't see UNC going to the SEC given the caliber of many of the schools in that conference.

Question for the Big Tenners - IF the B10 does indeed bring in UVA and UNC, what do you think the odds are of seeing the conference tourney ever coming to DC, at least a few times? I realize it's not in "Big Ten country" but it's still a destination city that everyone should want to visit.

Also remember you can gamble in Maryland. We're basically Vegas now.

We currently bounce between Indy and Chicago, but rotating an East Coast venue seems possible/likely. But depending on what happens with the BE tourney, DC would be competing with NYC. MSG is hard to trump and now they have Barclays too. Throw in all the media attention you get in NYC and something tells me that's the more likely rotation.

Do you mean they wouldn't fit in with schools that look the other way for their football team and commit academic dishonesty?

Why would the B1G have their tournament in NYC? That makes no sense at all. Even less sense than the ACC using Greensboro seemingly every year. According to your logic, the Pac 12 is looking at Cowboys stadium for its tournament, the ACC is considering NOLA and the Big 12 is thinking about LA.

  • I could see the conference tourney going back to a rotation that involves DC to further promote the conference out east. When the tournament first started it rotated every other year between Chicago and Indy.

Duke will become like Davidson after K retires.

  • So when unc or UVA jump ship, will espn and other sport pun dents bash their move as much as marylands. I never seen so much maryland negativity on such a no brainer decision. Especially giving the fact that maryland has bigger money issues then unc and UVA.

The B10 likes to rotate things and I agree that it would likely include east coast host sites for all its tournaments and championships. It's good PR (we have hundreds of thousands of alumni in the Northeast) and even those of us in the Midwest like the variety. No one wants to go to Indy every year. It gets boring.

Yes. I can only imagine all the criticism UNC will get if it ever leaves (and thereby effectively kills) the ACC. They will get blasted. I think that is why UMD is taking heat nationally to some extent. UMD's move is seen as the first brick being removed and many people are upset.

No, they'll blame Maryland for putting UNC and UVA in a position where they simply had no choice but to leave a now unstable ACC.

Disagree. If UNC had taken the same leap which Maryland did over the weekend, many of the same folks who are criticizing Maryland across the country would be praising UNC for their foresight and getting ahead of the curve. It's the old "their sh*t doesn't stink" theorem.

Not sure theyll have it in NYC either but your examples don't jive. NYC is in the big 10's footprint and there are an estimated 500k big ten alums between NYC and dc.

If/when UNC leaves the ACC, they're going to get shredded by the media, especially in the state. Losing Maryland sucks and it definitely hurts the ACC's product, but it isn't in the same ballpark as the ACC losing UNC.

Agreed, I was Thanksgiving drunk last night. The point still stands that even if NYC is now in the B1G's footprint, it is a midwestern conference and unless/until they add two more east coast teams, they will still be thought of that way.

The national press will attack MD and praise the trinity of UVa, UNC and Duke for reacting in the best way possible to events that MD caused. The NC Press will fall into line since most are UNC Alums and the whole state GVMT and University system revolve around UNC.

Look to see McMillen, Elmore and Lefty join in once again. The Post will run another expose on MD.

MARYLAND. The area they’re now calling the DMV—D.C./Maryland/Northern Virginia—might be the country’s richest talent mine.

I see them rotating it. All things Indy is bullshit. They make a ton of money off us playing up this salt of the earth Hoosiers wet dream. They are good hosts but it's time to rotate many things around. NYC will be in the mix.

Simple question. Out of just the ACC schools listed below, in UMD's opinion (a) who should we want and (b) who is most likely to be receptive to an offer.

    1. Texas*
    2. Notre Dame* - not AAU
    3. UNC
    4. Duke
    5. Syracuse - not AAU (recently kicked out)
    6. UVA
    7. GT
    8. Miami - not AAU
    9. BC - not AAU
    10. NCSt - not AAU
    11. VT - not AAU
    12. KU

    * Extremely unlikely.

Texas & UNC are the 2 most attractive schools on that list but both are very unlikely IMO. ND would be awesome but seems pretty unlikely.

I am intrigued by KU. First, they offer hope of occassionally winning in football however, the real attraction would be a game every now and again at Phog Allen Fieldhouse. That would be awesome.

UVA would be nice due to their proximity but I don't think they help Maryland. I'd rather Pitt than most of the other schools on the list but could possibly live with GT or VT.

Why was Syracuse kicked out of AAU?
