Time to start hating Pitt! (ACC schedule info)

We'll play them home-and-home every year once they join the lig.
"Men's and Women's Basketball:
As previously announced, the ACC will play an 18-game conference schedule beginning in 2012-13.
When Pitt and Syracuse join, each school will have one primary partner (Boston College and Syracuse; Clemson and Georgia Tech; Duke and North Carolina; Florida State and Miami; Maryland and Pitt; NC State and Wake Forest; Virginia and Virginia Tech).
The scheduling model will be based on a three-year cycle during which teams will play every league opponent at least once with the primary partners playing home and away annually while the other 12 rotate in groups of four: one year both home and away; one year at home only; and one year away only. Over the course of the three-year cycle primary partners play a total of six times and all other conference opponents play four times.
The format allows each program to see opponents with more regularity and creates an increase in competitive balance throughout the teams. It was determined that all 14 league members will continue to compete in the ACC Men's and Women's Tournaments and a decision on the Tournament formats will be announced at a later date."

At first glance it would seem only BC and Maryland didn't retain one of their original two partner teams from the first expansion.
I'm sure the Pitt game will draw the same as Duke...

If I'm reading this correctly, the only team Maryland is guaranteed to play twice every season is Pittsburgh, right?

So now we get Duke every other year at home. Without seeing the schedule breakdown, there's now a chance we could have a year without getting either Duke OR UNC at home. Wow.

100% correct. It sucks the most for the fans who thought the season was essentially 1 game.

we play every team at home (except Pitt) 2/3 years

I'm wondering if this could actually help us by making students care about something other than the Duke game, or whether they'll just lose interest in bball entirely

That's not true at all. Some students/fans overemphasizing that game doesn't change the fact that it has been a good rivalry for a long time.

I hated when we lost the true round robin schedule in the original expansion. Only delusional Maryland fans think that MD-Duke was an actual rivalry. It was a huge game for our fans, but every other team in the ACC gets up for Duke too. And some of those teams actually beat Duke regularly. I'm glad we have two pretty much guaranteed losses off the schedule and that our fans can finally get over "TEH DUKE GAME!!!1!"

"Overemphasizing" is putting it mildly. I don't think it's too strong a statement to say many of those fans (not all students) come to Comcast, once a year, to see Duke moreso than the home team.

Cross-divisional rivals stay the same in football (Therefore, Syracuse gets Pitt).

I'm significantly more pissed that we lose an annual home-and-home with UVA. I know UVA-VT makes a lot of sense, but the longest-standing eight ACC teams should have all been paired up with each other...Maryland-UVA, UNC-Duke, NCSU-WF, GT-Clemson.
Plus FSU-Miami, Cuse-BC, Pitt-VT. Or Cuse-Pitt and BC-VT, either way.
This sucks.

Pitt and Cuse are each other's rivals. Everyone else's stays the same.

Football crossrivals are unchanged, Terps still have UVA there. Basketball's taking the hit here.

Ours is still UVA. Pitt and Syracuse are cross-divisional rivals.
