This is the right time for Gary to leave

  • If Williams stays in the draft, Anderson should demand that Gary leave now on a high note before he disgraces himself. Let him leave with a positive legacy instead of being forced to fire him because of his mess. I want to remember Gary for what he brought to Maryland, but if he stays on, he will be remembered for ruining the program. Have him create a fake medical emergency or bs excuse about spending time with the family that lets him leave with his dignity.

  • I don't think Justin Anderson will demand anything, nor should he.

  • We should get rid of Gary and offer whoever NCState is gonna get and offer more money and get into a bidding war with them knowing full well that we're not gonna hire him and have NCState hire some turd for 4.4mil a year for the next 12 years.

Pretty sure he was talking about our AD.

With that being said.....ridiculous. This isn't Gary's fault. I'm as harsh on Gary and his recruiting as anyone but you simply can not pin a horrible decision made by a 19 year old who obviously has the wrong people in his ear on Gary. I also want to see what happens with this class coming in and the class following. No chance I want to take a chance at transfers happening because of a coaching change now that we have a really solid group of recruits coming in. Will next year suck...yup...but it would suck worse with another coach after losing Faust, Gibbs, Breunig and Anderson....not to mention Bino. Think before you post. I would have been right there with you a few year's ago but not now.

    9/21/2010...RIP Old IMS.

  • LOL at anyone who thinks that KA isn't just one of Gary's puppets anyway. Gary has way more influence and pull than an unproven AD that's been here for around a year.

Keeping Gary on only continues the mediocrity the program has had for the last 9 years. I don't care if the team explodes and the next coach has to go through a 2 year rebuilding process. I would much rather be Indiana who is in a good position with a new coach to succeed than be Maryland whose best seasons nowadays is 10-6 and 2nd round exit. The longer Gary stays on, the more irrelevant the program becomes. A few years of Gary turns us into Arkansas. At least now the program still has cache and can go after a big name HC. What happens in 2 years when Gary retires after 1 horrific season, and 1 mediocre season? The program quickly turns into NC State.

  • I don't think we can afford Shaka. But maybe Homeless Joe could fill in for a year or two.

  • no, i think that this was the right time.

Honestly...very valid points....but not realistic. Gary isn't getting fired...he's just not and I'm not positive KA would replace Gary with a top flight coach anyway. Need I remind you of Edsall? I think if Gary got pushed out right now we might actually plummet into UVA territory.

  • Lol. Wtf.

    ugotwilcoxed

  • Just sit back, relax and turn off your brain the next 2-3 years.

    hgoodman

  • Yea, Gary better get out of here on this high note.

We all know how this will play out, let's not pretend that a guy leaving early changes anything.

  • I'm so sick of this nonsense. Most of you don't deserve Gary and you never did.

    TheColfax

  • It is certainly going to be an ugly few years. He should still give some money to GV out of his paycheck because that man saved Gary's career at UMD. Sadly for Gary, JW doesn't look like he will be doing that also. Obviously we can't force the man out, but it definitely does not appear we will be playing great basketball the next few years.

    SiriusBlack

  • it does make a lot more sense why we have heard him in the last few days talk about getting another recruit for 2011

he's gotta replace Jordan or we're screwed

    bloodH2Omission

  • Maybe that's why Desmond Hubert has been taking so long to make up his mind? JW goes, DH signs, and starts as a freshman???

    Nocalterp

  • Desmond Hubert has CJ Leslie's body and would start at center in the ACC?

What has Edsall done so far to prove he's a bad hire?? I was on the Leach bandwagon as much as the next guy. But all I see and hear from RE is mending the bridges that RF burned with local high school coaches, a proactive PR /speaking engagement campaign to generate interest, being in on some nice recruits and actually getting commitments from some. You probably need to let him coach a few games before making a decision as to whether or not he's a bad hire.

And frankly, people can bitch and moan all they want about GW and how he should be leaving. He's not. Just lay back and enjoy it.

  • It definitely is sad that he's going to finish his career here with multiple sub .500 ACC seasons in a row. Who saw that coming?

JW leaving early isn't Gary's fault, but a mediocre coaching job this season, plus not recruiting another decent big man to step in for JW or play alongside him if he did come back IS his fault. Who knows, if gary had recruited a decent PF to step in for Dino and take some of the pressure/attention away from JW, maybe JW sees a good situation here and comes back.
