The team next year( attrition speculation)

Yeah your dead wrong. I never implied that they underachieved, and I dont know how you got that. I WAS optimistic because I saw the team had a chance to do better than most expected, which they have. But they are still ASS. How you got underachieving from that is beyond me.

Most of you all had this team well below .500 which I couldnt see.

You're right, they're ASS. I appologize for not recognizing the literal intent of your post.

  • pankey is only a freshman. he can rebound. i dont want him to transfer.

  • He played well offensively early in the season, but yeah his defense needs work. I'm actually surprised it took so long for most people to notice. However, at the end of the day he is still a freshman that has time to develop.

  • He's got some size and athleticism. He is probably more advanced than other freshman bigs and I am actually surprised at how much he has contributed this season. He's been on again off again with his work ethic however and I think that frustrates the coaching staff.

If he works hard I actually see him being a very good 3rd big man in promising rotation of Len, Shaq and him.

  • Pankey looked today as if this was his last game in a MD uniform...

Stoglin is lucky to be on a team like this. Every team has guys that can shoot as well or better (Miami has 3 that are also bigger and more athletic), they just don't get to do it 20 times a game like him.

This is just flat out wrong. Stoglin is one of the absolute best at putting the ball in the basket in the ACC in quite some time.

He can shoot from absolutely anywhere on the floor and in many different ways (catch-and-shoot, off the dribble, floaters in the lane, ridiculous layups in between trees, etc). With the players we have around him, he's forced to take ridiculous shots, and still hits them at a fairly high rates. If he had shooters around him, you would see Stoglin's efficiency go up significantly.

  • Maybe you missed the first five minutes of the 2nd half, where Stoglin was benched and not because of fouls.

    That's a mighty big assumption.

  • Anyone who doesn't think Stoglin would be better on a better team is crazy...

not really. He takes a lot of bad shots when we are down and no one else is scoring so he forces the issue. He didn't take as many bad shots last year and in games where we've had the lead he hasn't shot us out of the lead by taking bad shots.

He knows no one else on this team can consistently score and he is the best option every time. Turge may want him to play different in the future and I think he will but occasionally he needs to put the team on his back .

    Pic Sigs are for losers.

  • Stoglin might get 8 minutes a game for UNC. Does that make him better?

Yes he did. I am not sure I have ever seen a player who looks like he would rather be somewhere else more than Pankey. And when I say somewhere else I mean other than a basketball court. I don't think it is an issue of not wanting to play for Maryland, I think it might be an issue of wanting to play period.

actually a diehard Terp fan since 1978. I just call it as I see it.

Stoglin was by far the best player on a bad team earlier this year no doubt. But the team's improved and his issues have hurt their progress. I also see at least 3 other teams in the league that he wouldn't even start for (UNC, Duke and FSU) and probably several others. I bet a lot of ACC coaches would take Zeglinski over him for their own teams.

There are 2 players on this team who, if they transferred, would really damage the progress of the program--Len and Faust. A good-attitude, team-oriented (passing and playing defense) Stogs would help immensely, but Turge could immediately replace him with someone that can improve on numerous aspects.
